I've been a fan of Evanescence for a while and recently been introduced to nightwish. I want more :) just wondering if anyone can recommend some similar bands with female vocalists

Word for word what I was thinking when I say this thread. Other than that try Lacuna Coil (not their new album though), or Arch Enemy. Theres something very hot about angela gossow!

Lacuna Coil springs to mind, and there's also that band with Will Smith's bird, Wicked something or another.
In This Moment could be another one ye might be into
Melissa Auf Der Maur is another class act, although a little lighter than the bands you mentioned, but I'd definitely recommend giving some of her songs a whirl (especially Followed the Waves, it's well cool hey).
And if you were looking to get into stuff that's a little bit *ahem* different, the Cranes are another great band, kind of like if you had Tania Donnelly from Belly singing with the Cure.

I suppose I could be pedantic and point out that Arch Enemy and Wicked Wisdom, while great bands in their own right, don't sound much like Evanescence or Nightwish so the OP mightn't like them. I'd still recommend checking them out.

Now, Nightwish are one my favourite bands so I spent a few minutes going through my music drive to find similar sounding bands (to my ears anyway) so here's a list:

    Abonos from Serbia
    Accid Reign from Germany
    Adastreia from The UK
Addiction Crew - These guys are basically a clone of Lacuna Coil
    Ador Dorath from Czech Republic
    Aenima from Portugal
After Forever from Holland. Sadly broken up.
    Agnlea from Brazil.
    Akoma from Denmark.
Alhana from Hungary. Also sadly broken up.
All About Eve from The UK.
    All Ends from Sweden.
    Almora from Turkey
    Ambeon from Holland.
    Anachronia from France
Angel - This is a side-project of Imperia from Holland.
Angelzoom - From Germany. Not really metal but she has a fabulous voice.
    Angtoria from The UK.
    Auspex from France
    Autumn from Holland
    Avrigus from Australia

That should keep you going for while :).
I'm off to concentrate on Man Utd v Bayern Munich.

...Is it a coincidence all those bands begin with A?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Yeah, it turns out I've a lot more female-fronted music than I realised :p. I got halfway through A and realised that I'd be doing well just to finish that letter.

Coming soon - letter B starring Beyon-D-Lusion, Bitch Alert and many more :)

    Akphaezya
    Amberian Dawn
    Delain
    Diablo Swing Orchestra
    Elis
    The Gathering
    Kingfisher Sky
    Krypteria
    Pin Up Went Down
    Sirenia
    Stream of Passion
    Tarja Turunen
    We Are the Fallen
    Xandria

A small sample of the range of female fronted rock that's out there. They are from a different range of genre's. I am not sure if you like "beauty and the beast" vocals. If you do, older Sirenia, Tristania, The Sins of Thy Beloved and Trail of Tears might interest you also.

Heh, I figured Nightwish would be staking her claim ;).

Out of curiousity Block G Raptor, what Nightwish albums have you listened to so far as the singer changed for the most recent album. Are you more into the operatic-style vocals of the older vocalist?

    Made Out Of Babies
    Battle Of Mice

Same vocalist, her name is Julie Christmas. They're nothing like evanescence tho.

    Made Out of Babies

    Battle of Mice

I hadn't heard of them before now so I will definitely be giving them a listen.

Battle of Mice are pretty awesome, the end of At the Base of the Giant's Throat is pretty terrifying.

Anyways, I recommend my band for this particular thread :D
