How about writing an article about the farce that is FAS Work Placement Programme? The link below will show how the unemployed feel about it. There are also other threads on Boards about it.

on question 10 I think you still need to add more options. Personally I think many of the 'fake' jobs companies post are to
    a) see who is out there in the market, perhaps someone better than they have
    b) see if more qualified people are prepared to work for a lower wage than the staff you have.

If they advertise a job at a lower wage than current staff and get a good response, then they can feel justified in cutting existing staff wages, or worse still, make the existing staff redundant and then rehire the same job under a different title for maybe €5k less than the previous employee. I know of two companies who have done this recently.

I was thinking on doing something on this; as far as I know journalists know about it they just won't touch it with a bargepole.

Don't forget CE Schemes. They cost c. 392 million a year, yet they are relatively ineffective (a 3% better chance of getting a job than staying on the dole). They are the most costly programme operated by FAS and instead of helping all us unemployed they have been used for years as a sop to community groups by other govt departments by providing cheap labour instead of actually creating one or two real jobs; they mask the lack of social infrastructure and investment in local services; they are abused by particular demographic groups who stay on these schemes for years because it suits them. I would like to see CE schemes phased out and the money put to better use through providing relevant training programmes, internship programmes etc.

Forfas reports on CE Schemes and other FAS programmes here:
