    Hi All

Heading over to Edinburgh at the end of the Month and would like to treat ourselves to one night in one of the better restaurants while we're there and some affordable but decent eating for 2 other nights.

We have been looking at http://www.restaurant-guide.com/outsider-restaurant-the.htm as one of the options and we would like to hear some suggestions for other nice restaurants.

    Regards
    Tommy

I don't think you'll get nicer than Tom Kitchin resturant:

Two restaurants that I go to all the time, are Mother India Cafe and Thai Orchid.

Thai Orchid is a small Thai place at the top of the royal mile but is not touristy, staffed by the friendliest thai's they serve amazing food but you would need to book a day or two in advance to guarantee a decent dining time.

Mother India Cafe is not like any Indian food I have ever tasted, it is tapas style so you can order a few different portions. It tastes nothing like a normal Indian restaurant and the naan (pitta) bread is unreal. It is also seriously cheap, me and my gf struggle to break the £40 barrier, incl drinks, desert and coffee. No need to book, the place is always busy but you only wait 10 mins for a table.

The Witchery... Food and setting are out of this world. I cannot recommend the place enough. They are definitely on the pricey side (bottle of dessert wine on the 'dessert menu' was £550), but they do a "pre-theatre dinner" special too.

Again, I cannot recommend this place enough.

    Try:

the witchery on the Royal Mile beside Edinburgh Castle ££££ http://www.thewitchery.com/

    or

Stac Polly on Dublin Street in the New Town off Queen Street £££ http://www.stacpolly.com/

    or

Room in the Town in Howe Street, Stockbridge ££(Bring your own bottle) http://www.aroomin.co.uk/town/

    or

Kings Wark in Leith £ http://www.list.co.uk/place/100485-the-kings-wark/

    or

Any of the Howies restaurants (Bruntsfield, Waterloo Place etc) £ http://www.howies.uk.com/

All great restaurants, although King's Wark is technically a pub, with great value for money depending on your budget.

Have a great trip, Edinburgh is an amazing town. Oh, and use the "thelist" website as this is the main guide in Scotland for restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as bars and clubs.

The Witchery or The Tower are the best restaurants in town, but their prices reflect this. For great food on a slightly more moderate budget, try anywhere on George Street. I ate in Tigerlily for my graduation and it was wonderful. Google restaurants on George Street, because I've forgotten the names of most by now. I had a really hard time choosing just one though.

The Mussel Inn is lovely if you like Shell Fish.

Fishers in Leith is gorgeous and only a quick bus ride on the number 22.

Restaurant Martin Wishart is excellent for your top night out.

    Howies are nice.

La Petit France is lovely in the Grassmarket but book in advance as is very small.
