    hey guys

Im just wondering does anyone tick the gun club option?

I got letters from farmers last year with no problems, apart from the usual folio numbers they "dont know!!"

I am a member of a gun club in the local area which lands have deer and farmers have given me permision to shoot deer here also....

Is it just a matter of ticking the box and getting a letter from the gun club saying i have permission to shoot deer in the guin club area?

    thanks

    k

Having permission to shoot on gun club lands and farmers lands is just that, permission to use their lands. You still need a license to stalk/hunt deer. Permission from land owners will not suffice if you are caught in possession of a deer carcass with no license.

I think what KD means is that the last option on the section 29(i) is gun club land, and using that instead of getting a written letter with folio number from the farmers themselves.
It should be OK I think, it is gun club land and has a population of deer on it?

My mistake. Thought he was referring to the ability to shoot deer on private lands without a license once permission from land owner was gotten/sought.:o

    Carry on.

Ring Them! Only they can give you an answer on this, if you gave them details of your gun club they may be able to tell you would they accept it!

I have the form in front of me. The gun club option (D) wording specifies that the schedule detailing the folio numbers and contact details of the person entitled to the sporting rights must be filled in. This makes sense as otherwise you could have a situation where somebody might join a gun club solely for the purpose of obtaining a deer hunting licence even if the club has not clarified the position on hunting deer with the landowners.

The NPWS will therefore be able to check the number of stalkers on a given folio number. For new applications they can assess if the applicant has genuinely got ground to shoot deer on legally or if they working their way around the system.

It's not a foolproof system and it's a pain in the ass I know but we all have to do it. Tip is to be organised and type up the letter for the farmer to sign once you have the folio numbers. In the following year just change the date. Good luck with the application.

As allways and the same applies to everyone we have to get written permission again for the licence, question i have is, can this permission be typed up on the ole pc and printed off with just the farmers Signature on the bottom?, i have a list of my usual farmers and if i did a generic copy just changing the name and address would this be acceptable?

    thanks in advance.

Yea of course, thats what i always use. Then leave space for date and signature. Looks much more official.

That what we do each year, even have the farmers details and folio stuff typed ,just change the date and get it signed by the farmer .
    never been a problem.

great stuff, thanks, another question, i have usually sent in 2 letters of permission, but have lots more from farmers, just word of mouth, was out last season and someone told me that i needed it in writing and had to send into nwps with licence application, this true?, e.g. shooting on land with only verbal permission.

    thanks again.

Just looking at the application and it asks for firearm calibre and number.
Is it possible to get a deer calibre without a deer license??

You can be a member of an authorized range.

It can depend on the super though. Why would somebody need a centrefire deer calibre rifle if they don't have a deer license?

when you put the deposit on the rifle you get a serial no. and calibre. you can use that on the deer license ;)

Or if you are riendly with an RFD he can give you any serial number off a deer calibre rifle he has in stock if you have't made your mind up as to which rifle you want.

The NPWS do not "link" the serial number on the application forms for the stalking permit to the AGS firearms license, or vice versa.

If they did, you'd have to get NPWS license amended along with Firearms license if you changed stalking rifle mid season.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for that Jonty.

I'm just going to get my forms filled out AGAIN today, 9th deer licence for me.
I put down last time that I would be using 150grain rounds this time I may use 120 grain or even 110grain .308

All the NPWS want to see is min 55grain round in a rifle .22/250 or greater.

There is no requirement to have an Elephant gun to shoot deer lads!
Nice clean head shot with a .22/250 will kill as many deer with a head shot as any other higher calibre.

My personal opinion would be a .243 if you want to shoot deer and vermin with same rifle as it is a cracking round. Deer only .308 as it has the cheapest ammo and biggest range of suppliers.

There is lots of calibres available to you. All depends on what type of land you intend shooting on. Mountainy land with bog etc get the lightest rifle you can as it will feel like a crowbar after walking a few miles across heavy ground.

There are loads of rifles in dealers hands these days post recession begging to be bought:D
    Happy Hunting

No not true, I asked Ranger. I have my permit for one farm and I have permission on loads of farms.
The Licence clearly states anywhere you have permission and deer are in season you can shoot.
So not Kerry for Red permission or not before you ask.

Go on the NPWS website and they have a list of 2009/10 season.
I hope this answers your question.
