    Hi all.
Yesterday I just had an accident and dropped my Nintendo DS.
Small pieces from the center between the touch screen and top screen broke off. Nothing too big and it currently still works perfectly.
I would however like to have it repaired or else it will break in half.
Does anyone know any places in Dublin that I might be able to go to have it fixed, I really need to know as soon as possible.

    Ta

Is it still within warranty? This forum is more related to PCs than handheld devices.
You might get a better answer over on the Nintendo Forum

You could also do it yourself.
Plenty of Vids on youtube showing how to repair it and plenty of shops selling parts to get it fixed.
It's easy enough when you get down ot it.

    Moved to the Nintendo forum.

Actually I was sure there was some kind of Console Repair forum here somewhere... where'd it go? Or was I dreaming again?

Witnessmenow does repairs - he'll be along in a minute.
It's easy enough to do yourself but you need to replace the case (cost you about $10 on DealExtreme.com - best to replace the lot as fitting a non-Nintendo lid to an official base or vice versa can be patchy) and it's easy to damage the cables if you're not careful. However, if you don't fix it, eventuall the cable to the top screen will fail and the DS will stop booting up. If you decide to have a go yourself, buy a case (check the reviews, some are better than others and some don't include the hinge cover), the top screen video cable, a trigram screwdriver (about 2 dollars) to open it all up and maybe a spare touch screen - I'm pretty sure I've knackered my one doing this repair myself :)

BTW, the above assumes it's a DS Phat / OldSkoooool rather than a lite or DSi. No clue about them.

You might have more luck in the Console Modding forum, BTW.

I dunno about the DSi, but everything you've said applies to the DS Lite too.

    Hey,

For the next few weeks I cant take on anymore work, I have a queue of stuff on the todo list that is only getting bigger :/

If you are going at it yourself:

You need to replace the whole case, Dealextreme is the cheapest place to get them and they have tones of colours. As mentioned you need a tri-wing screw driver and a decent Phillips screw driver. To replace a case you should not need to solder.

Could take in the region of about 4 hours to fix your first time doing it. Follow the guide on youtube and take your time.

That is correct it is the old fat Nintendo DS.
Are there many videos on youtube on how to repair a DS?
I am considering doing it myself.

    Hi,

I've a very similar problem. My daughter broke the top screen on her DS Lite a few weeks ago and in an effort to be cost concious I decided to get a replacement screen from ConsoleParts4U.co.uk for £13 delivered. (Have to say their online service is very good and the part arrived within 3 working days)

Anyway, having seen dozens of engineers replace various bits and pieces off numerous laptops I thought it would be a simple case of unscrew a few screws, unclip the screen, plug in the new screen, replace the screws and bingo she'd be in business & I'd be "the best daddys ever" but the instructions that arrived with the screen are a bit daunting for me and require four things I don't have:-

    1. A solder
    2. A Y shaped screwdriver
    3. The dexterity of a swiss watchmaker or brain surgeon
    4. Patience.

My dilema is I now have two options open to me namely:-

    a) forge ahead and buy a solder and Y shaped screwdriver and have a go at fitting the screen myself and risk turning a minor repair into a total loss of the device
    b) cut my losses (write off the £13) and send the device off to be properly repaired by someone who knows what their doing?

I'me leaning towards option b but can't find a list of service providers who can do it. I'm sure there used to be a sticky here with that info.

Can anyone help in anyway at all with my dilema?

    Ben

Fixing a DS phat is probably easier than DS lite. Get the case from dealextreme, but get the $7.xx cases as they are much better quality and have the hinge built in which will save you endless hardship.

There should be plenty of videos.

4 is the big one tbh. The Y screw driver is cheap, and any old soldering iron will do the job, but If you dont have the patiences for it, its probably not going to end well :/

Its not the type of thing your going to find alot of crowds doing, there is a few here on boards that will do the fix, the consolerepairs Ireland in bray and a few mobile phone repair shops probably do it too.

If you wanted to get me to do it I would charge €25 + postage, this would be using the screen you already bought. Or €35 + postage If I supply the screen. Send me a PM if interested
