    Hi,

I live at the bottom of a hill and anytime it rains the rain water flows down the hill and into my driveway. Does anyone know who i would contact about getting a gully put in? Am i right in persuming that its the county concils responcibility?

you can create a 'cattle grid' type collection system on your own land and pipe away to a rock filled soakaway.

In todays economic situation i wouldnt expect any council to put this as a matter of priority

you can get a concrete or metal aqua drain that traffic can drive over....ask at your local hardware/precast concrete supplier. Would be easier to put in rather than the cattle grid. But the cattle grid would work.

Yes, you should document and write to your LA re this issue. Take videos after very heavy rain, lots of photos etc. Push the health and safety angle, CC the letter to everybody and anybody.
If the water was pissing off your property and onto the road, they wouldn't be slow to get onto you!
    It's your battle to fight!.

I appreciate "todays economic situation" but is this not the kind of thing the development charge is for so should the Co Council not be responsible.

i absolutely never said the council were not responsible.

    They completely are!

Im being pragmatic and telling the OP that if he/she wants this situation fixed this side of the next decade, they will need to do it themselves.

Councils do not have the funds fix public roadways after the freezing winter, to fix broken street lighting, to fix leaking water supply pipes etc etc ad nauseum. Central governmental funding is being rescinded to authorities and they simply find themselves broke.

Im simply making the point that this will not be top of an incredibly stretched budget.

Sorry I'm not trying to start an arguement, particurlarly with a mod, just venting a little frustration about the fact these charges are paid then get swallowed up in a larger budget leaving joe public having to sort this out themselves.

Getting back to the ops point, as a cheaper option to putting in a cattle grid, drain etc could a low kerb, berm or similar be put in place to allow the water continue its journey down the hill.

dont worry gears, im not arguing with you either :D;)

imagine how frustrating it is dealing with these f*&?ers every day!!?!? :D

on the kerb, i dont think that would work for a few reasons:

    1. you cannot do work on property outside of your ownership. When roads are involves this commonly means where your entrance meets the road. This would generally leave a 2.5 - 3.0 m distance between entrance and roadside.

    2. depending on levels ponding is a real issue

    3. constant driving over a kerb isnt good for either the kerb or your suspension. Thats why we have dropped kerbing in estates.

Im still of the opinion that some kind of collection system and soakaway is the best option.
