Align Motorised Dish Questions

I have an installer coming tomorrow to align my motorised dish so I can move it using USALS.

The question I have is as I havent the cable ran to the final destination of my receiver, if the dish is aligned using his meter (he says it supports usals and diseqc) or to another fortec star receiver near the dish will the usals and dish position be ok when I connect it to my main receiver with the same latitude and longtitude.

What would be good check to do when completed to see its OK.

Make sure he gives you the exact coordinates that he uses on his meter so you can copy his coordinates into your receiver.

Get him to run whatever cable you need may be a better solution.

Ye, get Usals coordinates if he sets it up that way. Would be better alright to test out some satellites on your reciever. Another way he could set it up is the true south method which is a more manual way of setting it up. Out of interest how much roughly does an installer charge to setup a motorised dish, if you don't mind :)

    Its not going well.

The installer was with me for 3 hours today and we didnt seem to get too far.

He aligned the setup for 8w and with the meter attached he moved the motor with the button on the motor.

    He got good meter readings for 30w, 5w, 1w 9e and 13e.

We couldnt get any signal on 19e or 28e. He thinks its to do with the ground mount being blocked by the roof in the dormer house which is 32ft away from the dish. I assumed that the distance would be fine with the angle of the signal etc.

We packed it in and I went to receiver to check what has worked, the usals showed up nothing (so that I assume it is off alignment) and the manual setting of sats is a pain and not what I want to achieve anyway. I could get a few.

This image is from behind the dish and the house is in the background.

This image shows the distance between the dish and the house, which I had assumed was enough. BTW its at 13E here. 28e is parallel with the house.

Anyone have any ideas or recommend someone in the Limerick area that knows motorised systems well and setting it up to work with usals.

I used dishpointer.com for 28e and its about 20 degress elevation for your area. House could possibly be in the way. Not too sure though. You might need to raise pole or try somewhere else. Worth trying to setup yourself. The chances are the dish may move slightly in time requiring aligning again. I set up a few motorised dishes with simple satellite beeper and up a ladder to complicate matters :D. You can reduce gain on beeper so that you can pinpoint max dish single. I have a satlook micro now (finally with usals) but can be done with simple beeper.

Agree. Looks very low down. Perhaps try moving it further back down the garden and then you could clear the house you think is obstructing.

Could you not move the dish location out the other side of your house, maybe up to the back/side ? It doesn't look great there either with such a nice garden but that's just me probably...

I'm sure if you moved it out the back or side you'd be better off anyway.
They're not as hard to install yourself these days either with modern motors and receivers, so long as you have the elevation set right at the start and your mount is level, it's generally then just a matter of fine tuning and playing around a bit.
You should be able to make some adjustments on your receiver for the motor if required too even if the mount is level or something is off with the installation but if your house is in the way then no amount of adjustments will help :)

    Thanks for the replies all.

I will look for a an alternate location.

The end of the lawn is an extra 50m of cable.

Its 30m into receiver from this location.

Is 80m too long for cable run, will the losses killl of weaker sats and will disseqc work over that length..

how long of a cable run can you have.

Will I need some sort of an amp.
