TechCrunch reports that it has received information claiming that Apple is set to roll out support for Facebook Connect in iTunes, making it easier for users to share items and information with their friends and extending the social aspects of the iTunes Store to broaden its reach.
It certainly adds up. Over the last few weeks, iTunes has been building out its Facebook Page at Facebook.com/iTunes, which now includes polls, featured items, and is being promoted in iTunes itself. And Lala, which was acquired by Apple in December, has extensive experience working with Facebook Connect (they also power Facebook's song gifting feature).

Apple introduced Facebook and Twitter sharing to the iTunes Store with the release of iTunes 9 last September, but TechCrunch notes that Facebook Connect integration would bring more powerful tools for enhancing the social aspects of the iTunes Store.

I like new features and all, but enough already.

65 million users access facebook via mobile device, 17 million or more iphones sold + how many million ipod touches, makes sense really. Average person has 130 friends, maximum exposure for very little cost.

I remember when iTunes was called SoundJam MP and I had to pay for it too.

I prefer it now, pointless Facebook integration or not.

Yeah, although I don't remember paying for it.

iTunes has been an increasingly mismatched name for ages now - I guess it's too iconic though for them to even consider changing it...

Been following this thread on MacRumors myself. I agree with most people there that iTunes is horribly bloated, and the last thing it needs are more lines of code.

If they really want to do something useful with FB, let us sync contact info with it. Phone numbers and email addresses, proper useful stuff.

Had this conversation with the Mrs last night, it is becoming a bit unwieldy.

I think they're going to have to rethink it soon. It's getting really hard to find anything other than the top 10, top 100, apps/albums etc unless you know specifically what to search for.

Apps is becoming particularly confused, especially since there are now iPhone apps, iPad apps and iPad/iPhone apps.

Good services, but they need to rethink the packaging tbh.

they should rebrand what they have now, and create a new app called iTunes that just plays music and doesn't crap out on me when i'm forced to use windows.

what like iMedia or something? I've never really had any trouble with iTunes, other then that its inferior to the excellent foobar2000, which you should definitely using in windows over itunes :P.

Perhaps if Apple went the whole hog and buy Facebook outright, maybe just maybe it will work properly for once.

Essentially iTunes has become their conduit for anything that has to work on Windows, for the purposes of supporting iPhones, iPads, iPods and Apple TV's.

Dreadful program. Using a Mac since the Quadra days, but i-tunes really is enough to make me leave the platform.

Enough with messing with my music files already. No I don't want you to copy anything and yes I do know there's a cd in the drive. And leave the ipod alone please it's just charging...

And then there's grace note, no it's not Lionel Ritchie it's my mates demo, leave that alone too!!!

    sorry chaps rant over...

Anyone know of a cheap powerbook pro going?
