Interior Design - Newbie Question

    Hello,
We have been living in our house now for a couple of years and after "round 1" of getting stuff done (we bought a shell) we stopped and had to save up some money. I guess you could say we are ready for "round 2"...
round 1 really was just the basics - what we need done now is "everything else" - walls painted, some carpeting, some fittings, light fittings etc... but its not something we can devote a lot of time to - our full energy right now is on keeping our jobs... and this means we both work crazy hours - so cant spend much time planning what we want, choosing colors, going around to all the suppliers etc...

so what i am wondering is if its possible to get an interior designer or someone to come in and help with some of the decision making/planning and help co-ordinate this work i.e. an interior designer/builder with good design capabilites etc...

    Big question is obviously -
    1) what are ballpark figures for such a service
    2) Is it worth it - or just get individuals to do one area at a time (i.e. just get a painter in - do the paint - next etc)

    Any help/info appreciated
    -O-

An Interior Designer will do whatever YOU want to have done and out of hours is no problem. You should be able to get enough advise in 4 hours to do everything you need for €200 - €400. Try Interiors Association for a list of designers in your area.

An interior designer would generally cost around €100 per hour and if there is a lot if sourcing of furniture, flooring, fixtures and fittings, etc then the hours can really mount up. You may want to look at an overall cost for the job as this can be more cost effective. If however you just need advice on colour schemes, layouts, etc and are willing to do the sourcing yourself then 2 -4 hours should be adequate. I am an interior designer myself so if I can be of any help, please do not hesitate to contact me via PM.

+1 for the answers above with regard to costings. To answer question 2, it really depends if you want a fairly instant result or if you are prepared to do it in stages (along with the requisite sourcing / tradesmen issues). This is where a designer can really add value in terms of having this info at their fingertips - yes it costs money - but you must balance this against having a really good job done within your given timescale. The choice is yours!!
