Are UPC streaming n1&n3 on MMDS

I was in a friends house yesterday in Limerick, out the old Cork Road, he is on MMDS and his card was replaced with one of the new UPC ones. I thought it was only cable that were changed over to n3 but it seems they are changing over MMDS also. It was only the card that was changed, still using the old box. I'm wondering are both n1 & n3 being streamed at the same time until all cards are swapped and then switch off n1. Please if anyone knows anymore on this i'd like to hear back.

That's exactly how it is done. You don't need to send two seperate video streams either - you can encrypt a single stream in as many systems as you like, the set-top box just uses the system it has implemented to decrypt the stream once you've the right card.
So chorus would leave the old (N1) on, and begin encrypting in the new (N3).
Once all valid cards are replaced and everyone is on N3, they simply turn off the N1 stream so any invalid cards or illegal dodgy boxes are effectively disabled on the network.

The old NTL cable networks had three systems going at once:
N1 for the old ntl branded boxes, before changeover
N2 for the newer UPC branded boxes, before changeover
N3 which they have finally switched all boxes over to

As far as I am aware the ex NTL MMDS areas have boxes which are identical to the cable areas, although the service may be quite different.

The ex-Chorus MMDS areas use DVB-T, which is the standard used for Digital Terrestrial Television, so the equipment and other technical details of the service are quite different to the rest of the UPC network.

ex-Chorus cable uses DVB-C, e.g. in Cork etc, so it's absolutely identical to the rest of the UPC network and the services are identical to those in Dublin and elsewhere except for Channel South.

Of course they were planning on getting MMDS on N3 after pure cable, most likely took longer due to the equipment on MMDS. But now the cards are on the way.

And yes they will simulcrypt N1 + N3 till everyone gets there cards and then switch of the N1 process.

anyone know what will happen with mmds on chorus in the future as it stand no pvr,no hd and you cant get bb from them if your on mmds yet you pay the same amount as cable customers for less channels?they are not giving mmds customers much options if they want hd are they?
