Sex after break up

I split up with my girlfriend a few weeks ago and took it quite hard. Well yesterday we ended up sleeping together as we hadn't done it at the break up. But I have to say, rather than feeling like I was clinging onto something, it gave me closure on the relationship and the sex felt like it was between two randomers rather than 2 people who were deeply in love. Granted, sleeping after the break up wasn't a great move, it feels like I needed it. Is this normal?

I'd say it's pretty common to have sex after a break-up.

It does tend to drag out the healing for a lot of people. It sounds like it's done the opposite for you, and you were already moving on. Congrats.

Yup its normal enough. Same thing happened with an ex of mine and totally gave me closure.

Yep it seems to be normal enough. The only problem arises if it gives one of you closure and the other some kind of false hope or something to cling onto though. Hopefully thats not the case here

I was actually the dumpee, so to speak. I'm not saying the sex was bad but it felt different. It didn't feel like a couple making love (even though I hate that term), it was what it was. It was just so vacant and mindless that it just confirmed for me that our relationship is over. Thanks for the confirmation guys. :)

    Hi OP

Do you mind me asking if you were together for long? The reason im asking is that I am in a similar situation and am thinking of having that one last time! We've discussed it but I am afraid it would set us back after having a few weeks to get over eachother a bit. I'm sure it doesnt feel like that for everyone. Do you know if she felt the same?

I can't recommend sex after a break up for everyone, but it helped confirm things for me. She was the one who institgated the break up and she hasn't wavered in her belief that it's for the best. I now agreed with her and did so even before our encounter. But the sex wasn't between two people who should be together, it certainly didn't feel like it anyway.

She was actually the one phoning me making sure that I was ok afterwards and wasn't feeling used. I told her yes but that I had used her as well and we both needed it.

Wow... Same thing happened to me a few months ago and I thought it was very strange. I wasn't too happy about the break up in the first place but after I slept with her again it did seem to give me closure. Couldn't explain it... Still can't! I thought I was on my own with that one
