**URGENT** Pacers needed for Limerick Half and Full Marathon May 2nd

    Hiya,

I know that it's not great notice but we have been approached and asked to provide pacers for the Great Limerick Run, at both half and full marathon distances.

It's a good race set-up and they have put a good pacers package together:

    They will provide:

    (1) A meet the Pacer stand at the expo

    (2) *Hopefully* Race singlet and vests

    (3) €50 per pacemaker for expenses on the day

    (4) 2 nights hotel accommodation for pacemakers having to travel to the event

    (5) Free entry to the race

    (6) finishers t-shirt

    (7) Finishers medal

It's a good set up but they are asking for a wide range of people:
    Marathon: 3:00, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:30
    Half marathon : 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00

As I said we're up against it a bit timewise but it would be great if we got this sorted. We do Dublin, Cork and now Limerick, that's three of the biggest marathons in the country.

    Is anyone interested?

(Mods - I know that this is really for the Events sub forum but I was hoping to leave it here for a while to get the best exposure, thanks!)

Do they not need pacers for the runners too :)

Will see can I get a pass.

Being paced by the legend that is Tunney...! Is Limerick ready?

Being serious it would be great if you could.

Pity this isn't about 2-3 weeks later, would have offered my services for a 2 hour half if it was...

Would be up for it... will have to run it by the boss first. Would be interested in pacing the half marathon for 1:40 or 1:50. I'll get back to you over the next day or two.

Well if you feel able for it or can free yourself up you know where I am!

Thanks Macanri, please let me know once you are cleared for takeoff.

    Any other takers?

May be interested, but have never paced for anyone before.

Some questions, might sound basic and silly, but here they go anyway.

Are the pacers required for the full distance? i.e. could I bring them for the first 10 miles of the half and then leave them off to finish on their own if I was out of steam?
    Is there a margin for pacers? i.e. a min + or -
What type of numbers are we looking at pacing for?
Are pacers required to carry a placard stating time?
Finally, is there a disclaimer for participants saying 'I confirm I will not shout at, abuse (physically or mentally), or shoot a pacer should I not achieve my time'?

I know I said finally, but what is the entry fee for Limerick half?

    Cheers,

    NT

Great start folks - I had my doubts but we might just do it!

I'm away next week for the ZuppyMonster nuptials so I have volunteered the ever capable Donothoponpop to run this in my absence (major thanks for that!). Anyone wanting to volunteer or ask questions between now and next weekend please drop him a PM and feel free to hold your hands up in here as well.

    Cheers!

    Useful to answer these...
Are the pacers required for the full distance? i.e. could I bring them for the first 10 miles of the half and then leave them off to finish on their own if I was out of steam?
All pacers need to go full distance: please don't consider pacing if you have any doubts about this!
    Is there a margin for pacers? i.e. a min + or -

    - within 0.01%- meaning if you can pace the 3:30 group, you can get them to the line just before 3:30
What type of numbers are we looking at pacing for?

less than a thousand, probably less than a couple of hundred
Are pacers required to carry a placard stating time?

    Most likely balloons
Finally, is there a disclaimer for participants saying 'I confirm I will not shout at, abuse (physically or mentally), or shoot a pacer should I not achieve my time'?

No, if this is an issue don't consider pacing
I know I said finally, but what is the entry fee for Limerick half?

    Cheers,

    Its on the website

To clarify something about pacing- you're not just running your own race, you're running the race lots of pacee's want to run. On no account should you offer to run a time that is not wholly easy to you. Pacing a marathon means you can hit 5k splits consistently throughout the race, and can finish the race with enough juice to shout and encourage those around you to race to the line - its not at all like the pacemakers you see on the track pacing a fast 1500 who drop out after a couple of laps.

Pm'ed you about this. Pacers need to have run well under their pacing time previously. To pace 1:30 you would have had to run well under 80 for the half.

I was panning on going down and running Limerick somewhere between 3.30 and 3.45.
I would have helped you out for the 4 group but i see you have 2 now. Im not fast enough for 3.45 by those standards. Have ran 3.24 recently.

What sort of numbers running the marathon mate? Really looking forward to the run. Had great craic running with the 3.30 bunch in dublin last year.

Sorry Oisin11178 I don't have info about the marathon, just trying to organise the pacers. I think amadeus said there were 1000 or so registered for the marathon at this stage.

Fair play to you guys. In particular to the Mick (metronome) Rice on the 3hr job. Good idea for the split into 2 halves there for the 2 others. A novel approach to a tricky pacing problem.

A few pacers have already paid for entry, and have asked if their entry will be refunded if they are chosen to pace. Just heard back from the organizers,

"Yes the pacers will have their entry refunded. We will do this when all have committed. I want to do just one overall refund.

Ideally I would like to have 2 pacers to a room. I know this will not always be possible but I would like to do this where possible.

Yes the 50 euro expense is on top of the free entry and the hotel accomadation. Food and drink is not covered."

Still looking for a couple each of 3:15 and 3:45 marathon pacers.

I'll be doing it with a target time of 3:45 but I don't fall into the 'pacer' category. Might be of some help if they're reeeeeeeealy stuck :).

Thanks RedB, but you're right about needing to pace from a certain category. In this case, a 3:45 pacer should have run better than 3:19 recently.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I have passed on all the contact details to the race organizers, and you should be hearing from them in due course.

Anyone who wants to pace 3:15, please stick your name down. Also, send me a PM if you are interested in pacing any time band, and I'll put you down on a reserve list.
