Transfer from HDD on LG DVD recorder to laptop

    Hi all,

Having trouble with my LG DVD recorder with HDD (bear with me, this is a laptop issue!). Have 2 3-hour videos on the HDD and need to put them on DVD. Seems to be a problem with the DVD drive recognising and/or formatting blank dvds so I can't transfer from the HDD to DVD (little fingers have probably bashed it too much).

The recorder does have HDMI out however and my laptop, a HP HDX16, has HDMI in. Problem is, once connected I don't know what to do! It doesn't recognise it as a hard drive & I've tried 1 or 2 of the basic programs e.g. Movie Maker but I can't capture video.

Do I need a particular type of program to do this or where can I find the input from the HDMI port?

    Thanks!

are you sure you have HDMI input?
Would be very surprised as there aren't a lot of HDMI capture cards out there even now for desktops yet alone integrated into laptops...

Am guessing it's a HDMI output for your laptop to connect to a TV.
If your recorder isn't burning to DVD then you may need to consider exrtacting the HDD from it and putting it into a USB or eSATA caddy to read, and hopefully be able to understand the file format the LG has used to store the videos.
Otherwise you'll need to get a capture card like a dazzle or similar that would allow you to record the video from the recorder.

Thanks for the response RikD. Thought the laptop could be used like a TV and accept incoming signal. Struggling to find out for certain if that's the case.

Look like Im going to have to get a Dazzle cable unless I can get this DVD drive working.
