    Hello to everyone on boards,

I always wanted to know what the difference is between red and green gas ? My friend recently baught a canister of red gas and i didnt have any idea what the difference was.

Can it be bad for my GBB if I've been using green gas for the last couple of months ?

Your help would be greatly appreciated

im probable mistaken but i think red gas is a mixture of propane(green gas) and a vapourised form of silicon oil so really only diference is the silicon but i think im mistaken i might be mixen red gas with something else

Green gas is propane with silicone oil added to extend the life of seals etc.

Red gas is a higher powered gas than green, it shouldnt be used in a gun unless it's had upgrades to withstand the higher pressure of gas when the guns fired.:)

Its questionable as to weather there is any difference between green and red gas, KD on here did a comparason between the 2 and I believe he found there to be no difference.,:)

green gas is propane and silicon oil

red gas is Chlorodifluoromethane or HCFC-22, R22 or Freon 22 used in refridgeration which turns to a liquid under a slightly higher pressure giving you slightly higher fps which was meant to be harmless but is most certainly not(any1 thats worked around it will know what i mean) and is been phased out , which is why it is becoming harder to come by and more expensive

I agree, though Red gas is more powerful, and from statistics I have read, you get more value out of it as you need less. But at this expense the price for a 750ml can is 20euro, yet if you use it PROPERLY you get twice the use.

the above is only what I have heard off of the web.

    ABOUT
Green Gas is the propellant typically used to drive Gas Blow Back Airsoft guns, consisting of the gas propane with silicone oil added.[citation needed] Some brands may advertise their product as Green Gas, or refer to it as "Ultra Green Gas", "Xtreme Green Gas" or similar, when in fact the propellant is not Green Gas/propane. Products advertised as being more powerful than Green Gas are typically Red Gas, correctly known as HCFC-22.

    USES
Green Gas is produced by airsoft manufacturers. In cooler climates, players often prefer to use Green Gas because HFC134a can be insufficient to cycle guns in cooler temperatures. A gun firing with Green Gas has more power than one with HFC134a, and therefore should be used with caution as it may damage guns which are not designed to handle the extra power, often making the slide/internals explode or be severely damaged. The magazines are also a weak point, needing to be resealed to take Green Gas. Generally, guns made in Japan cannot handle Green Gas in their stock form, the plastic slide can sometimes be replaced with an aftermarket metal one, although depending on the model, other aftermarket upgrade parts may also be required. Guns produced for the Taiwan market can generally take the higher power gasses. Many airsoft guns may also say that they can use green gas or CO2. If it says that you should do some research to find out which works better with the gun, because usually the gun only works well with one of the two gases.

    Propane adapter
After researching the properties of Green Gas, it was determined by Carlton Chong of Airsoft Innovations that Green Gas is propane with silicone oil added. Since Green Gas propellant is propane, some airsofters are increasing the economy of consuming the propellant by using consumer available propane canisters originally used for fueling camping stoves, lanterns, barbecues and welding torches. To provide compatibility between the airsoft Gas Blow Back guns and the propane canister outlet, a propane canister adapter, produced by Airsoft Innovations, must be used and silicone lubricant needs to be dropped into the tank valve every 8 to 10 magazine fills (in the case of a blowback gun). However using propane is not recommended for guns with non metal internal parts because propane adds more power and can destroy the gun. If propane is used in a full metal gun remember that propane doesn't have silicone which lubricates the gun like green gas so for blowback guns it is important that they are well lubricated. If the gun is not lubricated it will not cycle as easily and will damage the gun. Green Gas Airsoft guns store the propellant in another cartridge and can be sent to companies for later sale.
