The Five Stages of this Recession

People have asked why everyone seems to be so apathetic about all of the news over the past week. I think it's because we are grieving for the loss of the celtic tiger and our lifestyles.

I think the five principles of grief apply: The first is Denial. The second is Anger. In my opinion, we are at the end of the Denial phase and are now entering into the Anger Phase. The other stages are: Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.

Does anyone agree? As it 's hard to explain otherwise why people aren't revolting against this government and all of the devestating news which is being drip fed constantly into the public domain. A lot of the bad stuff has been suppressed by the current government and it is coming out now.

As in all recessions there are victims and the most important of these are the unemployed. The way the media and opposition are talking one would believe the rate of unemployment is 50%. Of course the media desperately want to fill column inches and minutes/hours and nothing like a recession and potential election to help them. The opposition are so desperate to break their miserable failure rate they will pile on the misery no matter what damage it does to confidence of the people. All the denial, anger etc is coming from those who will not be happy until they get their hands on government so they can do what they did last time, multiply the problems !

The reason there is no revolt is simple. A revolution that will work takes careful planning, forethought, dedication, self sacrifice and discipline. The utter lack of these qualities in the majority of this nations people causes the recession so they will certainly not be what ends it.

Our massive unemployment rate means our social welfare bill is over 20 billion and with plummeting tax take too as these people used to pay taxes, we are borrowing all the money to pay this.

It is a massive problem, that might have something to do with why the media are making a big deal of this

You go on staying in the denial stage, see how far it gets you, lol.

I think it isn't being highlighted enough and that too much focus is on public sector unions and public sector pay if anything is taking too much focus as they are all major problems.

I think many people are actually in acceptance stage, are just getting on with things and are ignoring the news because they just don't care anymore as they can't do anything about it and it isn't having that large of an effect on their lives if they are still working yet ....

In the next budget, taxes will have to be raised, more people will have to be brought into the tax net and social welfare will have to be reduced and public sector reform will have to begin. Then people will get mad again. I think we already witnessed the anger stage of the recession,

The majority of the population are in the acception stage.

We know what has to be done, and come the next election, it will be done.

The government are making the right decisions now, but it's too late at this stage.
