Is it possible to use a vodafone or 3 mobile usb broadband.

I presume ill need some type of router with a usb and ethernet connection.

Is anyone using mobile broadband with their dreambox?

Depends what you want to do.

It will connect to the internet for downloading updates , remote records , but forget any type of streaming.

Yeah just for downloading updates etc. No interest in streaming

Is there a router you would recommend?

Waster, you should check over on the midband board. Others have used usb routers with midband. However, not every router works with every dongle - so be careful what you order up.

Set a static ip address on the dreambox.

What's the latency like on these things?

Have a friend who doesn't want a landline and wanted it for a few things including online gaming (where latency is important).

really depends on where you are. If you are in a built up area the contention ratio will choke the latency. If your not its slightly slower than ADSL.

finally got around to getting this to work (kinda)

i got the dreambox connected fine to the mobile router (edimax& three BB) and it does have internet access now but the latency is so crap it causes glitching every 8 seconds or so. i host my own card so it's not even under stress but the latency is so shockingly bad its unwatchable. speedtest says my latency is 234ms (my ntl BB gets 22ms)

i live in lucan so hopefully its the congestion around here. i will be using the dreambox down in the country on mobile broadband so fingers crossed it will be working there.
