The Road Safety Authority have redesigned their website -- http://www.rsa.ie/

It includes an interactive map of the country showing accidents, which currently includes 2006-2008 is online here:
    http://www.rsa.ie/RSA/Road-Safety/Our-Research/Ireland-Road-Collisions/

If these links don't work or if the site looks like the old one again, they may have reverted it back to the old design again. They did that a while ago when I was posting on twitter.

It seems to have disappeared. However, I think there is a really good project in the making here.

Thankfully the numbers of fatalities on our roads is decreasing. At the same time they are unacceptably high. While it may seem morbid it would be very useful if these fatalities could be mapped by type e.g. motorist, pedestrian or cyclist. It would allow both the public and the powers that be able to identify locations that you need to be wary of or need to attended to by government bodies.

There could be a boards.ie project to map it out from the start of the year!

Unfortunately it seems to map collisions, not casualties. Typically 1.1 fatalities per fatal collision, although that ratio is dropping.

I saw an early draft of that about 2 years ago. At least all the road deaths are now recorded as being on land. That said, I'm not convinced it is 100% accurate - only one cyclist collision recorded in 2007, even though about 15 cyclists died that year.

Precisely how can it be less than 1.0 per fatal collision Victor ???

Maybe one should start a thread on this but their should be a law in place and enforced for pedestrians walking with no hi viz clothing or under the influence of drink/drugs. I see several near misses at night by people not bothering to be seen

two things that stick out for me are:

    1. the number of accidents on the KK-waterford road, now replaced by the motorway (pock-marked the entire route)
    and
    2. the lack (in a very good way) of fatal or even serious accident on the entire route of the M50. The road with the most cars by miles, has the least amount of serious or fatal accidents by miles.

nothing new in that little nugget, but its interesting to see it mapped out

In my experience it's the people driving too fast to stop in time that are hitting the drunken people rather than the other way round.....

Maybe there should be a law in place and enforced to stop motorists crashing into and killing pedestrians.....

It's good to see this up on their site.

Hopefully the blame game about speed Vs idiots/drunks causing accidents won't take over this thread.

A bit more information would be nice to see though.
