Anyone else applied zombie survival to real life?

I have noticed how basic zombie survival techniques can be applied to nearly any emergency. Max brooks book on surviving the zombie apocalypse is full of great tips like “bicyclical generator” (if the man and the boy had one of those in that bunker they found they could have waited out the rest of the apocalypse playing play station games).

Having a well stocked food and water reserve helped me and the family ride out the recent snow storms. :P

Nearly ever building I walk into, i automatically see and note where the exits are. I also calculate how many people it would take to hold the building. At this stage it almost happens subconsciously.

The biggest threat in any diaster are other human groups and disease. This is the same for Zed day. So If you are ready for Zed day, you are nearly ready for any apocalypse.

My Z-Day preparations are becoming my "economic meltdown" contingency stores.

Check how often Zombie Squad reference Katrina for example.

Whenever I walk down a road I can't help but decide which building is the best one to defend from, and what fortifications I could scavange.

    Oh right...

I'm coming from having sold my .270Win Steyr Mannlicher Luxus and buying a CZ 452 Lux .22 rimfire so I can shoot more, live on wild game if needs be, and it's a very accurate gun for headshots out to 100 yards.

I have oil lamps in case power goes out, a gas camping stove for same, a small stock of canned food, yadda yadda etc.

Zombie outbreaks are less likely than natural disasters or volcanoe eruptions, but **** happens! Be Prepared :D

I like to keep a knife under my pillow. Good to have for zombie decapitation, although I would have to hack away at the neck for a while as the knife isn't exactly kill bill sword sized.
Also good to have it close by in case of potential burglars/madmen entering my room at night.

and angelina jolie has one under her pillow in tombraider!

I think people should be careful with using knives as weapons. they're not quite as easy to use as we'd think, especially when it comes to Zombies. You need to sever the spinal cord to incapacitate them which will be difficult with most domestic knives as they're quite light and not designed for the task of hacking through flesh which requires weight and razor sharp edges. Blades will be slow at finishing off Zombies and slow at killing living raiders unless your trained in how to kill efficiently. Blunt objects would make a better temporary weapon I'd say.
