I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on this. I know that lot's of people don't care about it any more, but for some reason there are others that don't really believe in god any more but still keep away from meat today.

I did today. First time I ever broke it, really not bothered by it, although my mums face....:pac:

Edit: My opinion on it, I don't really know what I believe it, but I keep up the general traditions every year..for whatever reason I broke it today.

Had some lovely M&S sausage rolls this morning before 8, cos my 2 year old pulled them out of the fridge and pointed at the microwave ! Didn't realise what day it was. Feck it, I've started now, so steak for dinner also.:)

Yep-i don't go to mass from one end of the year to the other and am in no way religious so don't see the point in missing out on a lovely pizza or chicken roll today.
    mmmm pizza:)

Had a fry up this morning at work. Tasted even better knowing it was Good Friday. Hate the way people look at you though as if shame on you or something. I look at them as backward brainwashed idiots so it evens out :)

Doesn't bother me, I generally don't though cos my mam cooks and out of habit she makes fish/ a stir fry or something on Good Friday

I think I may have had a chicken roll last year though

One of the Popes ....many, many years ago was from a family of fisherman.

Huge windfall from the Friday ban.

Had a fry this morning so the answer is, yes i do.
The cafe was empty though, so maybe people do observe it...

Eat meat, drink beer, take the Lord's name in vain, blaspheme... yadda yadda yadda. Even if I was religious, I'd do the same. If breaking Catholic rules condemns you to hell, I'd say Heaven is a very empty place.

the burgers are going on the George Foreman later on, and the beer's being cracked open.

I've said it before - do the paedophile clergy believe in hell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

I have done in the past. Picked up a nice fillet of sea bass yesterday though so gonna sink that later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

Had the mother n father of fryups this morning. Main reason was because I was going into work at around noon so that amount of food will keep me sustained until late tonight. (plus i couldnt stomach fish at 11am)
I normally eat fish on Good Friday, not because Im religious but just because others are doing it in the house and I dont feel a day without red meat is a bad thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I had a nice chicken fillet roll there with chicken soup.

    Do you fast during Ramadan?

Same reason I eat meat today... the sooner the RCC realises that Irish != Catholic the better.

    DeV.

Just took a couple of lovely fillet steaks out of the freezer.

Think I'll marinade them with some light BBQ sauce and do a little bit of pepper sauce to dollop on top.

Then serve with salad and potatoes.

Just thinking about it is making me hungry...

When I was religious and an omnivore I ate meat on good friday, now that I'm Athiest and vegetarian I dont:p

    Wierd how that works out!

Just put on a roast beef. Will take great delight in the fact that the meddling pedophile ring can't stop me.

Imagine if they tried to ban all restaurants from serving meat today. Would it encourage a healthy attitude to eating meat? Or would everyone go out and get the biggest fattest steak on 'holy' Thursday.

    Once again,

Down with that sort of thing.
