Sky+ HD box now standard?

I got a leaflet through the door a couple of days ago that appeared to suggest that the Sky+ HD box was now being offered as standard to new customers, even if you don't take the HD pack. A look at the Sky Ireland site seems to confirm this.

Can you watch the free HD channels (BBC, ITV, Luxe) without a HD subscription, or have Sky crippled the box (similar to the way that the recording function won't work without a sub)? Might take them up on their offer if you can. I'm assuming you can't record BBC or ITV, since they won't be on the ROI EPG.

Also, what's the story with the phone line connection these days? Won't be getting multiroom - do they still insist on it for all installations?

Edit: Oh dear - just found the other thread on page 2. Apologies. My question about the phoneline requirement still stands, though.

A phone line is not a requirement these days unless you want Multi-room. Some times there is a "no telephone line installation fee" of approx €30 but it is not always charged. I think it depends on the installer.
