Hi,my mother wants to start taking fat burners. She is 50 years old and works-out 4-5 times a week. This consists mostly of step aerobics, running and light weight training. She eats a clean and balanced diet and is having trouble losing what is mostly belly fat. I was wondering if it was safe for her to go on a cycle of fat burners and if so what brands would people recommend?

Why? How long has she been working out? What did she weigh before? What does she weigh now? Any idea what her bodyfat% was and is?

This consists mostly of step aerobics, running and light weight training.

How often does she do each of the above per week?

She eats a clean and balanced diet and is having trouble losing what is mostly belly fat.

What does she eat/drink on a typical day?

No - need more info first. If people start recommending fat burners willy nilly the thread will be closed.

She has been working out for years, she used to be big into her running and at that point was weighing 56kg, but isn't into it as much anymore. She weighs 60kg and is 5ft4, she is around 28% bodyfat. She does step aerobics three times a week and does some light weights after that, she goes running twice a week and also goes on long enough cycles (30-50k) once a week. Her meal plan is as follows:

    Meal 1: Banana

    >>>>>>>Workout<<<<<<<

    Meal 2: Wheetabix with Milk

    Snack: Cup of Tea

Meal 3: Ham Sandwhich wit Butter

    Snack: Cup of Tea
    2 Biscuits

Meal 4: Chicken stir fry with rice or Spaghetti Bolognaise or Steak&Rice
    Brocolli&Carrots
    Glass of Orange Juice

    Snack: Cup of Tea 2
    Biscuits

*Glass of Red Wine at night

lots of aerobic exercise is NOT the answer and there some glaring mistakes in the diet - excessive carbs being number 1 and no where near enough good fats as number 2

If she wants to take something, then I recommend fish oil and a good multi-vitamin, plus some extra vitimin C. There is evidence that lack of Vitamin C or essential fatty acids slow fat burning considerably. Looking at her diet, she's likely to be deficient in both.
