Freesat+ box choice?

Long story short, I need a Freesat box that has series link that can reliably record a show on BBC (Eastenders).

It doesn't matter if it's a twin tuner or has an inbuilt hard drive, I've done a bit of googling and can't seem to find anything except that sort of model for ~€300. So can any of the standard cheaper Freesat boxes record to a portable hard drive?

The Technisat HDFS can record to an external hard drive and is single tuner. Presume it does series link - maybe someone who has it can confirm?

Don't think it has Series Link. You can schedule recordings on a daily or weekly basis etc but there's no inbuilt recording management like Series Link.

Right. Rather than create a new thread I thought this one was close enough for me to add my question to...

I'm looking for a Freesat+ box with series link, hard drive, the whole shebang.

Is one brand box better than another? Which is best?
How about the Humax Foxsat HD 320GB PVR?

I did a bit more research on this and found that that for reliable Series Link recording there are not that many choices (if you don't want to spend loads for a built in Blu-Ray):
    Freesat+ boxes

The Humax is probably the best (feature-wise) but has a small'ish HD at 320GB, although, in the end, I picked up one of the 500GB Grundigs for a good price.

All the PVR's are listed here http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/
they have reviews etc & ratings.

Most peolpe have the Humax since it was first launched. It's pretty good. No idea what the others are like. I believe Humax will be doing a new model later this year also.

guys on ebay are selling Humax Freesat boxs with 1TB drives

and freesat have recently lunched a 500GB Freesat box.

not cheap, but at least you'll have plenty of recording space

(mods feel free to remove link, only posted for illustration purposes.. i have no affiliation to the seller)

Thanks gtg60. I'll probably go for one of those. 320GB is plenty -already much bigger than Sky+ and also half that isn't being kept for 'Anytime'.

But some is kept for photos, unless you reformat from the start.

    Great kit though.

Hm. I didn't know that, thanks. I'll bear it in mind and will probably reformat asap.

Who would want to use a Freesat box to store and display photos!? Pah!

I assume it formats in NTSF format to keep HD files intact? Anyway, I'll discover all that before long. ;)
