Couple of people on here did this one I think, might aswell stick my race report in here..

Arrived nice and early to register and get setup. Collected my stuff and parked up. After setting up in transition I cycled the run route to see what was in store, racked up went for a short run and made my way up to the start. After getting my wetsuit on I had intended to do a short swim warm up but an announcement was made for everyone to get out of the water, race was starting in 20 mins.

    Swim

First proper mass start of the year, I ended up in wave 1 some how. First 100m I was swam over, swam over a few myself and took a few kicks and slaps to the head.. after that I found a bit of space and got going. Reached the first bouy and was caught up again in the mayhem, from here to the second bouy I went off course.. my own fault for not sighting enough. I lost quite bit of time, not only from the extra disatnce but I lost the group I was in.. lesson learned. Second bouy and I was greeted with a kick in the balls, ouch. Managed to keep a straight line from here back to the shore. Not a great swim, left shoulder felt tight in the suit.

    T1

Not much to note here, took it handy enough. Transition was one long line along the side of the road, lots of people running through in wetsuits and more people running out with bikes.. I did not want to chance an accident.

    Bike

Jumped onto the bike and pedalled with my feet on top of the shoes, went to slip them in and messed up... repeated this too many times before I hit the hill, balls. Up the hill with my feet still on top, not ideal. Finally got them in about 1km into the cycle, never had this problem before. The bike course was 'honest' First 5/6km was mainly climbing followed by a long down hill, the second half was lots of short sharp hills. It was a very busy route and I ended up trapped behind groups 3/4 cyclist wide at times. I made up alot of places on the bike., easily 30-40 or maybe even more. I think they need to look at smaller waves with more time between them, I passed large groups.. not trying to draft as such but they were benefitting from it.

    T2

In and out with no issues.

    Run

The run was staright out and into a tough enough hill that would be repeated twice, I made up maybe 10 places on the hill the first time.. kept a steady pace around the first lap and made up some more places again on the second repeat of the hill. Dull enough run, I could and should have pushed harder.. not a big fan of lapped runs as I never know if I am making up places or passing people on their first lap.

Finished in 1:11:54 (121/366) break downs were something like:

    Swim 15:52 (226/366)
    Bike 31:28 (76/366)
    Run 20:58 (117/366)

Spot the weakest of the three

    nice report mloc

    My 2p worth

Great event - great weather and the lake swim was very nice. Despite a swim estimate of 10 min when I entered this I was in wave2. I changed this without too much fuss. Missed the jump a little on the swim at the start - was with some guys from the club who Id hope to help a little at the start - and had to move through a couple of small groups at the first buoy. Trailed two swimmers into the finish but thought better of pushing to catch them. Was 4th out of water in just under 10 mins.

After a long stroll through T1, a quick jump onto the bike I got out and into the bike quick. Pretty technical for the first 6 or 7km Id say - fast enough and definitely a little short of 20km.

T2 and out on the run without too much misadventure. Run felt good for once. The initial hill needed a little caution but I actually felt good on the run in general. I finished in 64.11 (based on the clock above my head) but in the first set of provisional results I was 9th overall on 1.00.14 or something and now Im 33rd on 1.05.13. Im sure it will all be sorted out - since its now an NS race.

Good fast race, well supported in a great location imho
