Jam

    Hi Guys,

I've recently started eating wholemeal toast with a thin spread of strawberry jam for breakfast as a treat. It's so tasty and warming in the mornings.

I'm using a jam by Follains and the jar says No added sugar. The ingredients list is simply - Strawberries 60%, Grape Juice 39%, Pectin 1%.

Does this mean it's actually quite healthy? I know strawberries are naturally high in sugar and so is grape juice but I think it's a different type of sugar to normal cane sugar.

Am I fooling myself thinking I'm basically spreading fruit goodness on my toast?:pac:

    Thanks!

I use this jam too, my impression would be that it's sliiiiightly better than most jams, which are 50% fruit, 50% sugar, but it's still not great. It just means there's an overall fructose content of 50-60% rather than 80-90% fructose/sucrose.

Doesn't stop me using it but it's def not 'good for you'...

I use meridian fruit preserves. I get in my local health food store. They come in at around 30g per 100g sugar. How is Follain comparing?
They also make a gorgeous range of nut butters, which are delicious on toast.

I used to eat the follain ones but Khrystana said the Meridian ones are way better!!! I went even one better and made my own jam with xyilitol :D

It's not the end of the world and unless you have a sugar addiction or are trying to loose weight a bit won't hurt!
