New adverts charges

Not for adverts support like snypers post. I don't mind the cleanup of old adverts - probably a good idea. However Claire should be informed (or else the code behind the alert should be fixed) as html tags don't work in PM.

But the main reason for my post:
"If you’re in a hurry, you can pay €3 to bump your ad straight away."

Not happy. While I'm not a bumper - in fact I don't post many ads - adverts has always been boards community based. This is the first time I've seen any charge to do anything on adverts. And I don't like the precedent it sets. It's part of the commercialism of boards that has been mentioned before. It's a trend I'm not happy with.

Perhaps I should post this on FeedForward or in ACT but it seems like feedback to me. I've seen it - I don't like it. That's feedback not feedforward or revolution.

When Daft bought Boards, Do you really think that they were not going to try to make money?

They bought into boards - didn't buy boards. And I don't have to like it anyway. A site can make money without changing it's whole paradigm. Sneaking in little charges like this is an old trick. Get them used to paying this, then they'll pay that, then it's just a little step (one step at a time) to paying to just post on a fully commercial site.

We have always had ways of improving your ad by paying for it, long before Daft.

I should probably rephrase my last post - I didn't mention daft - in fact I consider daft buying a stake a symptom not a cause.

What paid options were there on adverts? I'm not talking about adwords or paid ads - just about normal ads on adverts. Not being a major user of the sister site I was under the (perhaps misguided) impression that it was a free ads site with no hidden charges.

No you could bolden your ad and add extra images and what not... we didnt really push them and people rarely used them.

We had a problem on the old adverts that people wanted to bump their ad and got into trouble, the thinking here was "ok if people want to do that, lets give them that option in a controlled fashion". Adverts is and always was a different site to Boards, more so now then ever before.

You don't have to pay to bump your ad. You get a free bump every 14 days.

So what side of the fence did this bump charge originate from then?
