fuel allowance arrears

    I applied for lone parents last year due to me loosing my job and my partner walked out on me.

    I have been awarded the payment in the last 2 weeks after a year waiting for a decision.

    I was told that if i qualified for the lone parents then i would be entitled to fuel allowance and that it would be backdated from when i made the claim for opf last year.

    I have not recieved any arrears that i was told i would get does anyone know anything about arrears.

    Fuel allowance is not automatically awarded, you have to apply for it. Did you also apply for the fuel allowance when you applied for your One Parent Family Allowance?

    The other bad new is that fuel/smokeless fuel allowance cannot be backdated, it can only be taken from the date of application.

    So, apply for it now, as there is only another 2 weeks or so left on the fuel season.

    I think with fuel allowance and one parent family they should make a decision on fuel allowance without you applying separately. On the one parent family award letter does it say anything about it being awarded or not? You won't get it if anyone else is living in the house with you and your child or if you are getting another social welfare payment athalf rate.

    I have received Fuel Allowance this year. You have to be unemployed 12 months before you qualify. When it came to applying for it this year I checked with my CWO to get a form to fill in and she checked the computer. She said it would be automatically sent out with my dole, and it was.

    I did not have to apply for the fuel allowance and it was applied to me automatically.
    I did get it backdated as far back as my first payment from the single parent allowance but that was a few years ago so things may have changed since then.

    Hey OP, I was in similar claim & fuel allow was backdated the 29 weeks I was waitingon one parent claim to be processed. It just takes yonks to get the arrears out of them & you literly need to sit on them to process it. Best of luck

    Still no arrears on my fuel allowance seems that i am getting the weekly amount but they not backdating it i wonder why they do for some people and not for others.
