Help- I'm afraid of teabags

Why do people do it?? Its less effort to put the teabag in the bin than put it in the sink and then put it in the bin?

Does old teabags have magical powers that i dont know, and they only happen in the sink?

    In summary: Grrrr.

    Aaaagh, it's so annoying!
And even more annoying cause I don't drink tea.. so I'm gonna start just throwing all my leftover food in the sink too. Same difference.

See how those tea drinkers like it.

Guilty :o Sometimes when you're pouring that little bit of tea out into the small sink from the pot, the 3 bags just...fall out and I cannot be arsed to put them in the bin right away :/ I'm starting to bin straight away, Dad is killing me over it.

    oh this really bugs me

its manky when you go to the sink and find soggy teabags there

i dont get why people use those ceramic teabag holders either - just put them straight in the bin!!

What's the big deal exactly? If they are cleared out of the sink in reasonable time then I don't see a problem to be honest :P

I'm guilty for that crime yeah. Just chucking the tea and tea bags in the sink is handy though!

Drain them bastards off, the amount of tea I drink a day would mean the bin bag would be full of smelly tea water.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭Soby

Exactly to drain of the water so the bin bag doesnt eventually rip with all the water

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

What you need is one of those containers that are for used tea bags.
This way people don't put them in the sink, they go into the container, not the sink.
Then after how ever many tea bags fills it, then someone empties it into the bin.
We have one, usually holds about 15-20 teabags.
    Handy yoke.

should only be put in the sink if the bin isnt near otherwise tea bags should go directly in the bin.

Well that's more for when you are serving tea with the bag in the cup and you serve it with a little holder for when the person takes out the bag. Kind of in the place of saucers or a side dish for the tea-bag. Some people like strong tea, some like weak!!

That's what I thought they were for anyway!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭jigglywoo

Can really hot tea bags melt flimsy plastic bags that line bins? That's the only reason I can think off.
Our bin has a flippy lid so the tea bags lands on the lid and slowly plops in to the bin, leaves dried in brown water all over the bin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,073 ✭✭✭sam34

drain them by squishing them against teh side of the sink, using the spoon you used to take them out of the mug, and then put them in the bin :)

Yeah, but if the tea-bag is wet, you'll drip tea everywhere, including the floor, the top of the bin etc

The sink is the place of that bad boy ..

Strain a teabag into the inside of the cup, no? This would solve the hot brown water dripping all over the floor!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,228 ✭✭✭epgc3fyqirnbsx

This really used to wreck my head when I was sharing a house, I was always the one who had to take them out, the other lads would leave them to fester

Solution : Got one of those little basketball hoops with suction cups for over the bin and it was more fun to try tp get a 3 pointer than leave it in the sink.
Wrecked the wall around the bin but still

oh, i never thought of that.

i've seen 3 people use them yokes and they all have them on the kitchen press beside the kettle, and gather a collection of teabags on it before eventually emptying it - rancid!

My dad always leaves the tea bags in either the sink, draining board or counter. No one else does, just him (thank God lol)

Can ye not walk over with the cup aswell its not rocket science...then put it in the bin.

We've a culprit in work, dunno who it is,but leaves the squashed teabag still on the spoon on the counter top. Grrrr drives me mental!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭Bolag_the_2nd

im all about the tea leafs, tea bags are crap imo, tea pot, strainer and the leaves in the special container, simples ;)

Actually what I use for making tea is a little steel mesh ball.

You place a teaspoon of tea in it and use it like a tea bag.

It hooks onto the side of the mug.

Then this too goes into the sink to drain.

Dry used tea leaves in bin.

    Happy days :)

This is a pet peeve of mine. I bought a ceramic tea bag holder and nagged and nagged until it was used :D
Another is if the cup is slightly too full and the person (OH) pours some tea into the sink and doesn't run the tap for a second
I am not a nag but I do like a clean sink, and tea really stains  I don't bleach weekly it for the good of my health!!

I open the back door and throw the tea bag as far as I can into the bushes. Living in the country is great. :D

Hell, we do that in the city as well.

When friends of the parents come over and demand that I make the tea I always make sure they can see me hang the teabags out to dry on the clothesline afterwards :D

Oh I know loads of people who do this, find it slightly annoying.
I find it more annoying though when people make a sandwich or toast with the tea, and leave the bread unwrapped so it could harden, the carton of milk left on the counter with lid off, the butter with lid off and buttery knife left on counter, along with the teabags left on counter or side of sink, and press doors left open.
If it hasn't been tidied by at most 30 mins or so after the person has finished their snack-it gets very fckin annoying!
I mean it takes 1 minute to put the lid on things and return them to fridge, put teabags in bin, and put the knife into sink or dishwasher.

Eurgh, I fùckin' hate tea bags left around the sink. They go all hard and green cuz nobody is arsed putting them in the bin like I do.

Eventually we just cut a 2 litre bottle of milk in 2, put it beside the kettle and throw the teabags into that. When it's full just tip the shìte into the bin!

Where does the water from that go?

It doesn't go anywhere, but eventually the teabags wll start to dry out a bit after sitting in it for a while.

It's not some new amazing invention, it's more of a large mug like container to put your tea bags in, just saves going to the bin every time with the teabag.

GREEN ???? how long do you leave them there for??
Unless of course its green tea your making .. :p

Little bowl beside the kettle does the job, empty frequently.

My friends mam re-uses her tea bags!!

Or ya could all use a ****ing tea pot!

This would never happen in my house.

But then again, we all drink coffee.

Tea bags in the sink is one thing, but when it extends to teabagging in the sink, that's a whole new level.

i've seen these, want one :)

well, i like strong tea, so my (two) bags are squeezed to within an inch of their lives, then i fire them into the bin. if there were teabags left in my sink, i wouldn't care really... scoop them up and put them in the bin :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,739 ✭✭✭✭starbelgrade

They're called tea strainers. Can't believe that everyone doesn't have one. Then again, not everyone lives in my world / head.

I didn't read the whole thread, so this may have been posted before - I believe what you need OP is one of these. You can get them in your nearest supermarket for about €0.80. The O/H got one after I kept leaving teabags on the side of the sink & it started to stain!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 957 ✭✭✭GrizzlyMan

Well Im from Cavan and i am still using the one my dad left in the Sink in 1992. So I dont see the harm in leaving Teabags in the sink!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 557 ✭✭✭drunkymonkey

Could be wrong but i think it might have something to do with the sound of the teabag hitting the sink as well! I know i love that sound but i dont drink tea!

    Coffee FTW !
