Cost of fitting a new tap

The cold tap in my shower needs to be replaced as the threading has worn away. Whenever we turned the tap it was just spinning as obviously had nothing to grip to. We then removed the tap and were using a pliers to turn on the tap as a short term solution. As a result, the threads are worn on that part too so I will have to replace the tap. I have bought a replacement tap but now need to have it fitted. I have ABSOLUTELY no clue how to do it myself and would be afraid to even try as I don't know how to even turn off the water!
Anyway, one of my friends in work rang two seperate people he knew to see how much it would cost for a plumber to come out and change the tap. one quoted 80euro and the other quoted 100.. i thought this was ridiculously expensive as obviously it would be a nixer and would probably take them 5 minutes! None of my friends would be able to do it so I will have to hire someone. Can anyone give any suggestions on what I should expect to pay etc?

    Thanks!

€80 isn't bad, its not as quick and easy as you might think

If the tap your changing is on the bath well then there a pain in the a**e to change so €80 is very good.

    Thanks for your input guys!

Got it all sorted now! Called a plumber who came over and changed both taps and re-sealed a section. All done for E40. Happy to pay that for a job well done and im delighted I didn't go for the first 2 quotes!

    Thanks!

That's a good price - delighted to see that there is value for money out there. Can you send me his details also.

I got a guy (tap doctor) or some gimmicky name like that who came out, replaced the tap valve in all of about 3 mins and charged me €80. Then when my electric pump wouldn't re-engage after he did his work, he told me that this was nothing to do with him and legged it out the door.

Did he phisicaly take the taps of the bath or did he just replace the inserts?

Good price, good for you, fair play to the plumber, when he is looking for a new job in a year or two I'd love to hire him. If he is self-employed, paying his taxes and carrying insurance, a vehicle, tools , a few quid at the end of the week for himself, he must have decided to do his good deed for the week with you.
If it was a Fiat punto, cash and an adjustable from B&Q, the scratcher and hope nothing goes wrong, he's definitly onto a winner.
Hard to compete with €40.00 for a job. Can't put diesel in the van for that.
