Does an App of this type exist?

I am getting to grips with an iPhone 3GS after many years of having Nokia mobile phones.

One thing I have noticed is that with the iPhone when locked (and screen black) is that if you have been out of earshot of the phone, you have no way of knowing whether you have a missed call, text message, email etc, unless you unlock the phone.

My previous phones such as the Nokia E51 had a little light which would flash when this happened.

Does an application exist which would alert the owner of such a scenario? If not then i reckon its a very good idea for an app!

    cheers

When you press the home button when the phone is locked, the screen should show you missed calls, missed texts etc. You don't have to unlock the phone.

You can also set the message alert to repeat twice.

sorry, I mean't to say to press the home button, instead of unlocking the phone. eitherway, my point is you have to press a button (causing the screen to light up, and precious battery energy wasted...) to find out.....

Well then what do you expect the app to do? The iphone has no lights. You could turn off auto-lock but that would decimate the battery life...

i take this does not exist then, which is a shame....

If you go into Settings -> Messages, there is an option to repeat an incoming message alert tone twice more if you do not open the message.

If you still miss it after the two extra alerts, then there will be no other new message indications.

So you don't want to light up your screen for ten seconds to check because its a waste of battery power but you'd rather have a blinking light that goes on for potentially hours.
