    im looking for any tips on pen construction that ye might have come across over the years eg. what did ye plant in your pen

    Have planted few bits in the pens but find the feckers pick it all so haven't bothered since. They're on mud & bit of grass now. When I cut the lawns I throw in the cuttings & they go mad for iit.

    Just bury your mesh, don't make the walls or roof too rigid as they will hit it often! Row of galvanize around the bottom helps too.

    +1 on burying mesh epointer. Have always gone 2-2.5feet down. Save a lot of heartache and prevents nasty surprises in the long run. If ya can manage to get a few spear thistles to grow, they seem to enjoy the flower heads of them.

    We burried the wire, 1inch mesh on the bottom and 2inch on the top. Ran 3 strands of electric fence wire around the outside, put a few shoots for stragglers to find their way back into the pen. We always put a few loads of sand in , birds like to fluff. We were always against closing in the top, birds tended to get caught up in it if spooked.
