As the title suggests....do you need to eat during an Olympic Tri?

After a few years of cycling I know how much I need to eat on long rides and when to do it but coming up to my first Olympic and basically I was wondering, do you need to eat anything during it and if so when do you do it?

Do you need to? not really. at most a gel and/or a sports drink.

For me- usual breakfast, banana about an hour beforehand

Half energydrink/half water (premixed) on the bike- about 500mls

One gel on the bike. I carry a second one just in case but usually don't use it.
