As a fan of arcade racers over sims I have been interested by both. I have put in almost 100 hours of Burnout Paradise and I am now am feeling a little burned out by it (pun actually intended).

Anyway, looking at both games and they both really catch my sense of gameplay. Anyone got an opinion, preference or comment?

I'm hoping S/S will be good, but at the moment I'm a bit skeptical. Apparently the destruction isn't as impressive as it could be. I'm holding out for the reviews though, so fingers-crossed...

I've the Blur beta on the 360 and it's pretty enjoyable. Haven't played a huge amount of it, but it's basically Wipeout with wheels. I'm not a massive racing game fan, though I did really enjoy Burnout Paradise and found Blur has a similar enough chunky arcadey feel to it with the added bonus of firepower. Split/Second seems slightly more rigid in when and how you use your power-ups, saying that I haven't seen a huge amount about it.

I've been playing Blur all day and can't stop playing it. Excellent game. I haven't played S/S yet, so can't compare, but Blur is the best arcade racer in quite a while.

Played S/S and didn't think much of it to be honest, and there's no demo of Blur on the PSN store...so for the moment I wont be buying either.

    Blur all the way
Didn't like the S/S demo on the PSN. The racing was ok, but the main point of the game was poorly executed - may be better in the full game, but it wasn't enough to convince me to buy.
In fact I straight away pre-ordered blur as I needed some racing fix, and S/S was so dissapointing.

So got Blur - wat's it like
Absolute mayhem. Great in-game soundtrack (when you enable it), well polished, races well and 20 car MP is just nuts.
This is my racer until F1 in September...

got s/s and modnation racers, do not like split second. MNR is a great game

Going by the demos, I would have put Blur ahead. Played the 360 beta and I really liked it. Split/Second is fun too, but will have to play through the full game for judgement. My major perceived problem with both is longevity - although I loved the Blur beta, I'm not sure if there'd be any major surprises in the main game. Split/Second at least has the surprises of all the other tracks, but once you've played through each of them a few times I'm not sure if it would be worth full price.

Not a very decisive answer, but in short they're both fun, but in my experiences of their respective demos, I'd put Blur ahead. Reviews don't seem as gushing about Blur as I would have hoped though.

split/second by a long long way

blur has novelty factor, but its a fairly mediocre racer at heart imo

    *edit*

for the record, didnt play either demo, but have both full games

I bought ModNation and Split/Second. I think that of those two SS is the better game.

I'm interested to get Blur though. Might try to get it tomorrow.

I was fortunate enough to get both games.

IMHO Split Second is miles better than Blur.

If your a fan of burnout then Split Second is definately my recommendation. Blur isnt that great a game at all. It feels like Diet Need for Speed meets a really bad clone of Mario Kart. I find the Soundtrack to Blur very out of place but Split Seconds is very dramatic and draws you right into the game.

Rubber Banding is an issue with both titles, more so with Split Second but it does not detract from the overall experience. its fast, frantic, at times completely insane and its a lengthly title. 12 seasons in single player with 6 races in each season.

You also have side races with are even more fun than the actual main events where your dodging trucks throwing exploding barrels at you and fighter helicopters firing missiles at you.

Trust me you cannot go wrong with Split Second

    Just out of curiousity...

would be interested to understand how those that are pro S/S how does the retail version compare to the demo.

I think the demo doesn't give a great impression of the actual game.. the retail version is a lot better.. just not as good as Blur
