As per title whats the best type of LCD to get for playing the PS3 on? I hear if your looking to go "Full HD" it needs to be at least a 42" to get the full benifit from it? Is there any truth to this?

Would it look just as good on a 22" or 32" HD Ready LCD?

No truth in that really a 32" full hd looks miles better than a HD ready 32". I usually go by the rule if you are getting bigger than 32" you should get full HD as picture quality starts to drop failry fast as you go over 32" on the HD ready tv's.

A 32" full HD is a nice size for gaming i wouldnt go smaller really as long as you can afford it id go for a 37".

i'd go for a plasma for starters, especially for games and movies.

Depends on your price limit really ??

I have a 32" Sony that is difficult to see for FPS when there are snipers etc so i end up going closer to the TV, maybe that my eyesight though !!

Ill be upgrading to 42" or 47" and possibly a 50" Sometime this year.

If you're gonna be watching blu-rays go full hd.
99% of PS3 games are not in 1080p though. I've got a 42inch 1080p and from up close the games look damn ugly.

I have the Sony KDL40W4000 and I cannot fault it for use with the PS3. Movies and games look great on it.

Out of curiosity, how close is close?

It would have to be if the games look "damn ugly".

When playing MAG I cant see anything from the couch so I sit around 4 feet away.
Everything is pixelated from that distance.

Pixilation = damn ugly in my book

It'll be in my bedroom so I'll be going for one in or around the 32" mark.

I think Lidl or Aldi had a 32" Full HD Ready for less than €500 a week or 2 ago but at the time I thought the screen was too small to benfit from Full HD!

I heard they are better for darker pictures alrite but they tend to burn images into the screen if left on a static image i.e paused for too long

They dont seem to be as popular as LCD TV's either:confused:

I purchased a Panasonic 42" full HD plasma 3 years agao and IMO the quality all round is still better than most LCD's no burn Issues and there have been plenty of incidents where it could have had the Burn probllem.

Ive a samsung 42" 1080i in my games room im around 6 foot away and its perfect to see far away snipers but graphics do suffer. Ive a 32" 1080p in the bedroom id be around 8 foot away from it and while everything looks amazing i find myself squinting to see small objects or text fairly often.

If you have no cost issues get full HD 37-42" if cost is a problem id get a 32" full HD (Aldi have 1 for 340 euro now) and sit closer.

MAG is pretty damn ugly no matter where you're sitting. :pac:

PowerCity are doing a 32" for €299, Walker model.

42" and 6-8 foot is what I am doing at the moment, and the 42" is too small if I sit at the other end of the room (12-15 foot away).

The good thing with full HD is that you CAN actually sit closer and get more screen on your field of view, compared to a lower resolution SD display, which requires you to stay a bit back to avoid pixel/grains.

    Depends on your Budget Op.

You can get decent make TV's for smaller money nowadays.

    1) Plasmas aren't as popular as the weight issue
2)they were and more expensive to buy and run.
3)can't be made smaller then 42's really.

But when you put the exact same image on a plasma right next to an LCD you see a huge difference, the blacks are black rather then dark grays almost.

I have a 32" full HD and would sit no more then 5-8 feet away and i find the screen great.

It depends on the size of the room how far away your sitting.

I have always loved the panasonic TV's the quality of there products is always good.
Samsung and Sony share parts and Sharp share parts with Pioneer.

Out of the chains of stores harvey normans are better to deal with then currys etc.
DID are usually more expensive but can be good to deal with too.
Personally i wouldn't buy a TV from a supermarket, cheap or otherwise. But thats my own preference.

I like dealing with the lads from richer sounds/the philips store here on boards i have gotten bargains from them and there costumer service is good too.

If you can go full HD no smaller then 32inches, look up contrast ratio higher the better, the response time of the tv smaller the better.
And remember a HDMI lead too!!

Just one of the games is ugly?

Sit too close to a tv and most of what you will see will look bad.

I've a 40" samsung 1080p. the picture looks pretty damn good from anywhere in the room for SD or HD TV. to get the best effect I game from about 8-10 feet away, any closer and I can get a bit "goggle eyed", at that distance some SD television can look a little poor.

For a smaller room I'd say 32" would be fine.

the "burn effect" was true of 1st edition plasma's they are now much better.

i certainly don't notice it on my panasonic that i bough 2 years ago PY-80.

i get slight burn if i leave the screen paused for about an hour but by the time that happens my ps3 auto shuts down, or if i know i'm going away for a long time i'll just turn off the screen as it will save power anyways. the burn isn't noticable unless you're 2 inches away from the screen and goes away once you stick some moving picture (movie etc.) on fullscreen for about a minute.

If you want the best go for a Samsung 6 series led.
Way better pictures than any of the lcds/plasmas. Not sure the exact price, think your looking near 700,maybe I'm wrong.
Was working in an electrical shop for the guts of a year, best leds by far are the samsungs. Have a 40 inch model of it myself in the sitting room, class tv.

Can vary from game to game.

Under Display settings, you can go into custom settings for resolutions and check/uncheck what options your tv can support:

    720p
    1080i
    1080p

Some games can support 1080p, but if 720p is selected they default to that - fix by deselecting everything except 1080p.

Some games (e.g. MW2) will default to 1080p if both are selected.

A lot of games (SFIV, Tekken 6) support 720p max, and if you deselect all but 1080p it drops to the minimum 576 resolution.

And some games (e.g. Uncharted 2) support 1080p, but look like arse because of upscaling, and you'll get a better picture at 720p.

Anyone know anything about this Walker set? I'm looking to get a 32" tele at the moment just for the xbox. Won't be hooked up to tele but I'll prob watch Sky Player on it so this sorta price would suit me perfectly. I'd appreciate anyones comments on it
