Is it easier to learn with an attractive teacher?

Probably one for Feeky, but do you think it's easier or harder to learn from someone you find physically attractive, or does it have any bearing?

I remember being ambivalent towards double physics as a) it was double physics, for feck's sake but b) the teacher was stunner. A friend of mine fondly recalls philosophy lessons with 'the ugliest man in the world' and how they all learned so much.

I suppose up to a point it gives you a certain impetus to actually show up and, perhaps a little pathetically, try to impress 'hot teach' but on the other hand it can be a bit distracting from the actual subject matter.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any good examples of hideously repulsive yet somehow engaging professors on youtube (there's a keyword niche there) but I did manage to learn a few intersting facts along the way, such as this one about blood types.

Honestly, I have no idea what that video was about. I enjoyed it though.

Despite what the some of my class thought, there were no attractive teachers in my school. I think going to an all-boys school made them insane. So in answer to your question...

5 page essay on one of those videos by Friday morning please.

To be honest, the girl in that video thinking that she is hot immediately puts me off.
I'd rather a girl that is cute and smart, but not into herself.

Anyway, back on topic: Personally I find/found it harder to learn from someone who is extremely good looking, my mind tends to wander and I can't concentrate.
I would be sitting there thinking... she looks great today, instead of what the teacher is actually talking about.

Tila Tequila hasn't got a brain in her head, there is no way she could be a teacher.
She could maybe teach stripping, or something similar.

A physically attractive teacher in front of a class full of teenage boys (especially) does not lead to them learning any more. It leads to them pulling the stones off themselves

It wasn't too easy when you had a massive boner and she asked you to stand up....

From a female point of view, I actually learned better from the more attractive teachers (be they male or female). I always had more respect for the teachers who were well-dressed and seemed to look after themselves. I had less respect for the smelly, messy looking teachers and therefore wouldn't pay as much attention to them in class.

In saying that, I don't think I ever really fancied a teacher, so not sure how I'd react if I had some ride teaching me!

    Ahh the memories.

Irish class was awful for this, the teacher was this 40 year old milf who would dress in these really sexy clothes (leather skirts, tank tops...she knew..).
And then to have to stand up...would always try to leave my big coat on and say that I was cold if she said anything,
plus you could say you were messing with something in your jacket when you are really trying to sort out the junk.

The troubles of a 14 year old boy...

Is it any wonder our country is going down the jacks?

You could have said that about half the teachers I had in school. At least she's easy on the eye.

In the long term, I'd say "no" but have no statistics to back my thoughts up.
I'd suggest that someone extremely good looking would act as a distraction rather than an aid to learning initially.

In my school the female teachers used to compete against each other for 'sexiest teacher' by progressivley wearing sluttier and sluttier clothes in. Pretty sad really, but entertaining considering it was an all boys school. The male teachers dubbed it 'The Sexual Harrassment Stakes', probably took bets on who the first female teacher would be to sue somebody for 'wolfwhistling'.

An erection requires quite a large amount of blood to maintain itself. Blood that won't be upstairs nourishing your brain.

So I'm going to say no on this one.

I had a certain lectureer last semester that oh jesus...what I wouldn't do to him :p Don't think I missed a single lecture of his, even though I'm a bit of nerd, I subsequently got the highest mark in the class and I'm one of a handful he knows on a first name basis..still pass him around college and he says "Hi ---" <3 God, I wish I had him again :(

More entertaining? yes certanily but is it easier to learn? no way man we had a french student teacher for our junior cert and not one person in the class could concentrate on the actual subject.

it was amazing though and actually 5 years on myself and my friends can still manage talk about her!

    I give you the Countdown conundrum;

Rachel Riley - ever since she joined Countdown I've noticed a clear decline in the amount of letters I can make a word with in the Letters rounds. I'm still good at Math but I think her fine self in those dresses would keep my mind wandering and not focused enough on succeeding with the task at hand. I'm not saying there was anything wrong with Carol Vorderman but she didn't distract me.

With that in mind, thank god all the female teachers I had were munters otherwise my grades would have been shocking.

    for some it might be
but i'm really good with french in school, my best subject and the teacher is a middle-aged woman, and i like guys around my age so i'm not attracted to her but i still do well

I was never taught by anyone whom I found physically attractive, but I was taught by a number whom I found charismatic and magnetic, so yes, it was absolutely easier to learn their subjects.

Very good point, interesting perspective I just assumed the question was based on physical attractiveness,

Personally I find a magnetic personality very attractive. Irish women, for example, though I don't want to say anything negative about Poles, who are in a field of their own.

I'd punch her arse so hard during sex that I may do permanent damage

I reckon it's definetely harder to learn from an attractive teacher. During my 2 leaving cert years i had a serious crush on my irish teacher, she was a girl next door type, didn't dress sexily but she had an amazing set of breasts. I was in love with her (or so i thought!). I had written all over my personal diary "***** loves Ms ******" with hearts and kisses everywhere and made sure on a few occasions that she saw this. She never mentioned it once to me but at a PTM she mentioned to my mum that i had a crush on her and that she thought it was distracting me from my work. Anyhow in the run up to the leaving cert(89) i took some grinds during the easter hols with her and on each occasion she was wearing a blouse with the top 3 or 4 buttons undone!
Jesus it drove me crazy and she would just give me this cheeky grin!
I eventually failed Irish (unsurprisingly) and thought i'd never see her again.
Roll on to '92 and i'm a fair bit more experienced and i bump into her at Feile. I drunkenly confessed all and result i was in there! Although we only kissed and groped each other that night we did date a few times after that cause i was determined to bed her despite at this stage not really fancying her. I was 20 in '92 and she was 33 so it was nothing more than a bit of fun for both of us. I spot her the odd time nowadays as she lives in a my hometown cause she teaches in one of the local schools. Married with a couple of kids she still has a fine rack on her! But back to topic....had i being taught by a complete minger i reckon i would've passed Irish!
