I have a compaq 6735s laptop and recently bought an expressCard Firewire Card in order to transfer video from my video player.
I cannot get video to transfer.
The laptop makes a noice when card inserted (similar to when inserting SD card) but nothing comes up on My computer.
Is it the laptop or software Im using? I have tried using windows movie maker which is compatible with firewire from what I can see.

    Any help really appreciated.

have you installed the software so your computer will "recognise" the firewire card?

maybe put the card in when the laptop is powered down, then turn it on and boot into windows. See if the "found new hardware" windows pops up.

if the hardware is installed correctly it may just be a case of having to tell the software what device to use for video capture.

make sure your camera is in the right mode also as some require a certain playback mode for transfer to computer.

There was no software with it, i thought it should just be reckonised once inserted as is the case with the memory card reader.

no "found new hardware" windows pops up.

I have a feeling its the camera. Its a sony and when i google it lots of people seem to have issues with it, and i think it will not work with vista at all. thanks for the help
