Currently bored after watching every episode of "How I Met Your Mother" and "How to make it in America". What TV sitcoms would you recommend?

Albeit not a sitcom, you've turned me onto something brilliant :)

They don't come much better than The I.T. Crowd

Also, as someone else already said, The Inbetweeners is quality too!

This is a bit like saying the new Westlife single is a Sitcom

Situation: They're all broken hearted and want their girl back
Comedy: The lyrics are so bad they're hilarious!

House is not a sitcom, it's a drama.

fair enough. What did the OP say about my opinion. When did music become sitcom ?he wants something funny to watch I gave him something and he said he might watch it. I didnt get technical on the sitcom thing. He might watch something now that he finds funny. Where is the problem?
I dont find house a drama. Suppose it depends on each persons opinion. When I seen it first, yeah it was drama. Then I got into it and No I wouldnt call it drama. Its funny.

It's more drama then comedy, yes it has some comedic elements, in the way it's written and some of the lines from House, but it's primarily a hospital drama/procedural. It's a medical diagnostic show at it's core.

House as a charaxter adds a dash of comedy, a sitcom by definition is of Two & A Half Men ilk.

    That's true..

.. I find 'Two And A Half Men' as funny as dropping 17 copies of Tolstoy's 'War And Peace' on top on my penis!

30 Rock and Modern family without a doubt the best two new comedic shows that I have seen in the last few years.

Also a little older but it crowd and black books maybe worth ago.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia has to be one of the funniest things on the idiotbox at the moment, that and The Inbetweeners

What else? Avoid anything on Paramount, most of it's dire crap like 2 and a half men, anything with Chuck Lorre's name attached to it is a disaster, Big Bang Theory, Cybill etc

Malcolm in the Middle is good too, but I think it's finished, It's Always Sunny in Phil is still on and I think they're making more and The Inbetweeners is being repeated on C4 at the mo and they're gonna make new one for next Sept.

Then there's older stuff, like Blackadder which cannot be beat, Only Fools & Horses etc,
    happy viewing

I love "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" - absolutely brilliant stuff. Also, what basquille said:

    Arrested Development
    30 Rock
    Modern Family

    Also: Peep show

Parks & Recreation is OK as well - not sure if it's still on. It's a nice change from utter crap like Friends.

Arrested Development. You should be watching it now, not reading this sentence. Then maybe Peep Show.

The Office both UK and US
    Modern Family

Seinfeld is the best sitcom ever but if you're a certain age you'll have gotten Friends instead which sucked balls. After Seinfeld, Arrested Development is the key

The Larry Sanders Show. Second only to Seinfeld as the greatest sitcom of all time.

The King of Queens is good.

Go for some older stuff, and you can rarely go wrong:

    Frasier
    Fawlty Towers
    Only Fools and Horses
    Bottom
King Of The Hill (animated, but still an absolute classic)

Just finished watching Eastbound and Down.Even though there were only six episodes,I really struggled to the end. There were funny moments but not many.I flippin' hated the Steve character. It did nothing to make me care about how it ended.

Party Down is really good.Season two will be starting in the States at the end of this month I think.30 Rock has slowly grown on me.

    The Thick of It

Good writing and acting even if you aren't that mad about it. ;)

But as they said what ever makes you laugh.

Anyone else remember WRKP in Cincinnati? If they ever show that again, jump on it. I also have fond memories of Kate & Allie, which is what Jane Curtin did after SNL but before 3rd Rock From The Sun (also good).

More recent: am I the only person who watched Studio 60 from the Sunset Strip? It didn't "take" and was cancelled after one series. I think it confused audiences, since it was a kind of "dramedy", with the creators and many actors from The West Wing doing comedy.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I watched that as well. It was pretty good, though not as canned-laughter-ish as it probably needed to be to survive. Good to see Mathew Perry in a decent show.

I remember the spin off with one of the characters called Head of the Class, coincidentally one of the stars of that show has his own thread here.

Not the only person, just one of a few ;) ? If you enjoyed that, and West Wing, check out Sports Night. What Aaron Sorkin did before West Wing.

nope, same actor, different characters. not a spin off.

just watched first 20 episodes of community, now its not perfect but its made me laugh. great character growth and its not afraid to poke fun at itself (they're in danger of entering into scrubs preachyness though) for the type of show it is you expect the characters to be one dimensional but thankfully they're not.

its always sunny is (apart from season 1 and 4) consistantly good, as is 30 rock

    Modern Family
    The US Office

Nothing of note from the UK at the moment, but Black Books is one to catch up on if you haven;t seen it yet

why do people like the big bang theory, its about as funny as milk..zero laughs. always a turnoff when the sets look so fake and in a studio setting like this.

    these are more like it
30 rock, modern family, extra's, king of queens is deadly IMO. old guy in it cracks me up.

    Curb your enthusiasm.

Not sure if it's called a sitcom. More like funny as fúck-com.
