    Hi,
the laptop on my dell inspiron has broken. it was on the floor open when it was kicked by accident. stupid mistake and well I feel like a plum for having it therein the first place!! anyway, while the computer itself seems to be working fine and there's no problem with the backlight can someone advise me? can screens be replaced/fixed or in this day and age would buy a new laptop altogether be the better option?

Check ebay for a replacement, or connect it to a monitor.

Is the screen just very dim? If so it could just be the inverter that's gone on it, which should be a cheap enhough fix

No actually it's as bright as it was before. its just nowyou can't make out the content on the screen. The content is jumbled and there are horizontal and vertical lines going across also.

My bad, misread your post. Yeah it sounds like the screen is busted...didn't mean to be getting your hopes up!
As said, ebay is a good place to start if you're willing to do it yourself, there's a couple of posters around these parts that do it i believe.

Aye sounds like a replacement is required. Lots of tutorials on how to do the repair yourself if you are up to it. I advise getting a little help with this if you havent done it before. At least take a look at a few video tutorials. Although it is a simple enough task I have seen a few ppl break bezels and the like.

    Best of luck!

same thing happened mine , I rang Dell to get a quote for a new screen, which was going to cost me €50 less than a new laptop when you included all the labour!!! At the moment I have mine connected to the screen of my home computer until I can afford a new laptop!

Screens on ebay cost about 100 quid, and they're easy enough to install. Hell dell even have manuals online taking you through the steps needed.
