I wear glasses and my highest grade in the Junior Cert was a C. I was smarter before I got glasses, tbh.

I wouldnt say that the majority of people who wear glasses are highly intelligent.

Im another specky four eyed mutant eye weakilng who is rarely the sharpest axe in the toolshed. They're like a push up bra on a woman, they make me look better than I am.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The really smart people who need glasses realise they can hav contacts or laser surgery. It's just the nerds who stick to glasses so they can find each other and talk about Star Trek.

I only wear glasses half the time; does that make me 50% more clever than normal?

Tbh; I think it's that 'clever' people tend to wear glasses because they read/use computers more - the prolonged concentration of the eyes damages them. So clever people are more likely to wear glasses; but not all glasses-wearers are clever

I didn't have to wear glasses for most of my life but then halfway through getting my degree I had to get them. Now I'm doing a PhD course. Clearly there can be no coincidence. Glasses have increased my ability to do things I have no business doing.

I never wear them mind, they make me look silly.

I dunno, there seems to be women with certain types of eyes that when they wear glasses I get that fizzing feeling in my pants. :pac:

Though I'm more of an eye person, I suppose.
    You should see my collection!

I don't want to be mean to anyone that does wear glasses...

But I know a fair few people that wear glasses and a large number of them are certainly mentally defective.
To the point that I'm wondering how they don't fall down more...

The people on university challenge and that are probably wearing glasses due to the amount of reading that they have previously done,
causing them to need reading glasses, or just glasses in general.

Edit: Just to say, women wearing glasses is hot. :D

I think they are simply clever enough to realise they need glasses. It is like those reports saying athiests have higher IQs, intelligent people would be just more likely to think more about such things. I would also wonder if it is like blind peoples senses being heightened, allowing the brain to work more on other tasks rather than registering visual detail.

I like to think I'm the smartest person I know.
    It's not true though.

Is it not generally due to the fact that a lot of scientists/genuises are generally in their later years when they are usually recognised for their past work/success? As they get older their eyesight would naturally deterioate and so there would seem to be a higher percentage of smarter people who wear glasses.

Two of the dumbest guys I've ever known had the thick milk-bottle glasses. I mean you could burn ants with these things. I remember it particularily because to look at either of them you think they'd open their mouth and start lecturing you on nuclear physics and quantum theory. However in reality you'd be lucky to get a coherent sentence out of either of them. It wasn't autistic/savant behaviour either. They were both intellectually deficient and socially retarded to a barely functional degree.

    ==

I agree about the cute women in glasses. I know one particular woman who kills me everytime I see her. She's like a 9 in her specs. But it drops down to a 5 with them off. :(

Only the other day i was told that i was a right funkin genius.

I recall reading somewhere that children who read a lot when they are younger damage their eyes or something and so end up needing their eyesight corrected. If that were true then you could imagine a kid who reads a lot more when they are really young might go on to become more intelligent than others and need glasses because of all that reading. Unfortunately i don't know if it were true or i was having my chain yanked.

I believe that Mensa have done away with their regular IQ tests for prospective members and now simply have this as their application form:

    Do you wear glasses?
    (please tick appropriately)

    A.) YES
    B.) NO

there is a strong corrrelation between Reading a lot as a child and requiring glasses

I have worn glasses since I was 5, my eyesight is so bad that I couldnt see well enough to play football without them, so the only game I was allowed to play was Hurling cos it had a helmet with a face guard, course I was a savage little bollix with a stick so no one else wanted to play against me. Which is how I ended up spending my Childhood reading books as my brothers played Football.

which I suppose made me smarter, smarter than them anyway, but they're intercounty Footballers now.

This is true. Eskimos had been known to have great eyesight and scientists assumed it was something to do with their diet. Thing is, they were illiterate. Once education was brought in, the numbers of people with glasses increased the normal average.
