Clutch Problem?

    Hi Lads,

I've done a search but can't see anything on this.

My clutch is causing a few problems at the moment. It is quite often making a loud clicking noise both going down and coming back up. It doesn't happen all the time but comes and goes. Do you know if this is a sign of something about to go? Or (hopefully) a small job?

I'm a bit broke and don't want to bring it in yet!

    It's a Peugeot 206 - 2004.

While I'm at it, anyone know where to pick up a cheap chrome emblem badge for the rear? I've tried a few car dismantlers but no luck. Some muppets took it off a couple of weeks back.

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like the cable. Can you get full progression on the pedal without sticking?

Hi Bonito - It has stuck twice in the few weeks it has been making the noise

When pressing on the clutch does it feel rough? Are you getting a rubbing noise that is louder when your foot is off the clutch as to when it's on the clutch? A noise similar to rubbing two stones together?

Not really - most of the time it is fine (normal) Then occasionally i will get this loud click on the way down and back up. It'll usually then happen fairly often for a day or so and go away again for anything up to a week and come back for a day etc.

Sounds like the clutch is fine. Cable probably just needs adjusting. Not a big job at all TBH.

Check your foot mats aren't stuck up around the cable, you'd be surprised how many times that happens.

The cable can go dry if water gets into it from the engine bay and washes off the grease. Its not an expensive job to replace the cable..

Never thought of that! Good call that happened me a lot when I had my 206. Heel-toe tended to do it.

The clicking noise sounds like the self adjuster on the clutch is adjusting itself now and then....what milage have got on the car..??
If you want post/pm your vin number and i can check what type clutch you have......:)

Thanks for all that lads - good to see a few think it's a simple problem! It's not the mat anyway - i don't use one, it's damn small down there without any other obstacles!
