Have a few friends who applied for this. They're out on Thursday.

You get in based on a points system. You get a certain amount of points for your original degree and more if you have a masters. They used to also give points for teaching experience but not sure if they still do that.

It's pretty tough competition for places. Most people are either first class students are masters graduates.

Yup according to the pgce cite they are announced on or after april 1st so hopefully on thurs! I know that this is the final year for gathering points for teaching practise.... hardly fair that those who have been teaching can just rake up points for experience. I kno if u have a masters ur granted 6 extra points, which is a considerable amount

I think we were told this year that there was 600 applicants and only 150 places. Just so you know how much competition there is.

Are you talking about NUIM in this context? What has it been like in previous years?

Yeah, that was NUIM this year (I'm doing the Dip at the moment and that was what we were told in class a few weeks back). I don't have numbers for previous years, but my understanding is that last years applications were the most competitive yet, in terms of numbers and quality of points.

I can't imagine the place numbers will increase (the Education house struggles to hold everyone as it is sometimes <_<) but I would imagine the applicant numbers will; every year, more and more people apply for college so I'd believe it works it's way up to the Dip as well.
