Good morning all, wasn't sure whether to put this in the Cork forum or here, my sister is coming down to visit me in Cork and is planning to shop for her wedding dress while she is here. She already has an appointment in the Moderne, but she wants to make a couple more while she's here. We would prefer shops in the city rather than in the suburbs, can anyone suggest a couple of good shops?

Her budget is really no more than €1000 so places that have a good selection in this price range would be appreciated. Many thanks!

Thanks for the tip sunshiner, we ended up going to the Moderne and the Bridal Boutique. They had lovely dresses in the Moderne, but very traditional and nothing really suitable for my sister (she is having a civil ceremony.) The Bridal Boutique was amazing, what a treasure trove! Karl is fantastic, he was so nice and really got what my sister was looking for. He was able to recommend dresses we would never have thought of trying on. She ended up buying the perfect dress there and she is delighted (price was good too!)

My only wish for them is that they can move to a bigger premises, they have some fanstastic dresses but you can't really see them as the premises are so small. I think they are only open a while, so hopefully business will be booming and they can move to a bigger spot.

That Bridal Boutique sounds like quite a find, do you have a number for them or email address? Where exactly are they? I must get cracking on my dress hunt soon!

The thing to do is to pick out the dress here, order it in the states, get it sent to a relative/friend in the states and sent to you in ireland but marked as a gift, therefore avoiding the import tax and saving about 75% of the price here :)

Rice and Roses in Douglas and Bridal Bliss in Blackpool are both great shops. It might also be worth looking outside the city at places in Midleton (there is a few) and there is a great place in Bandon, esposa i think.

It can be hard to get appointments in some of these so make sure you call in advance. Alot of people make alot of appointments and then maybe get the dress in the first or second shop so its worth calling them on the day to see if there are any cancellations.

They are on Patricks Quay, 3 doors down from the back of the Metropole. They are a bit of an unusual shop, they sell new, second hand and vintage dresses. All they're dresses are priced at 50% of the retail costs (so they say anyway :pac:) and that's the same whether the dress is new or used. They only have one of each dress, even the new ones, so the one you try on is the one you buy. With the 2nd hand ones, they dry clean them when they come in and then dry clean them again before they go out. The new ones get dry cleaned before they go out. It's not a scenario that suits everyone, but they are genuinely cheap. I saw Fiona Toddhunter and Jenny Packman dresses and they were genuinly half price.

I wouldn't recommend it as your first port of call, it is a little bit cluttered. I think it's better to go there after having been in a couple of places, that way you have an idea what you want and what suits you. That worked for my sis anyway!

Went there to have a look last weekend and they were brill. Didn't get "the" dress, but I'd say I probably will end up getting it there once I've slimmed down a bit. Was able to try on so many styles and designers due to it being a second hand/vintage shop so it's fab for getting a feel of what you like and don't like. Prices are great too...tried on a David Fielden that was less than half the normal price. The girls in there were so friendly and relaxed, it made for a much more pleasurable shopping experience than the first place I went to that was up its own arse altogether.
