Ok, this film just thoroughly entertained me throughout its entirety.

It takes themes like 28 days later, mad max, braveheart, fallout, escape from LA, and references aliens, and all sorts of things, and just blew my mind.

Think of a fun film like Shoot 'em up, then have three genres, and take only the fun scenes and stick them together, this film.

I recommend anyone to see it.

I have been trawling through the sci-fi genre lately, and my latest watches were the most recent films, this gem, I have just watched.

I won't spoil it, but there are definite cheer out loud moments, the first 40 minutes or so are a bit cliche, but you will not be prepared by initial impressions for the wild direction it takes from there.

Funnest film I have watched in a long time.

    :)

didnt really like this at all which is funny considering i tend to enjoy these kind of movies, it was just not great but at the same time not bad enough to be 'so bad its good', it was a bit all over the place

also i thought it kind of ripped off the premise of escape from new york if i remember correctly

the main actress in it is lovely though, and as someone who likes a lot of what would be considered dodgy films, i can understand why other people might enjoy it

edit: its entirely possible i might enjoy it more on second viewing though i suppose

The director intended to do an homage to many post apocalyptic films, Aliens isnt even mentioned in the list, but there is a scene where they are driving half on fire apc's through rubble that was so close, I knew the inspiration was there.

Its a spot the reference, have a great time type of film. So ludicrous its fun.

It's entertaining nonsense and I do own the Blu Ray but it's far from the best sci fi film in recent years. You should check out Outlander which has an equally daft premise, vikings and spaceman versus an evil alien monster, It's absolutely crazy but manages to be entertaining as hell.

For more cerebral sci fi track down the excellent Dante 01. It's a visually breathtaking film wit a great script and enough ideas to sustain it.

Outlander was awful, only slightly better than films the scfi channel put out in the states. If they had taken a leaf out of the film the 13th Warrior instead and mixed it with the spaceman/dragon it would have been watchable.

I thought it was shocking to be honest.

Would I be right in remembering that micky from hustle was like a badass soldier?

Yes Outlander is entertaining, especially the shield dance off scene and Ron Perlmans accent..

I avoided this movie though as it looked terrible

    This movie was absolutely woeful!

I don't know what Neil Marshall was thinking!

Thought Outlander and Doomsday were both daft as a brush and enjoyed both as what they are ;)

If you want to see Ron Perlman truly debase himself you should watch him reciting the Our Father in Irish in the awful Mutant Chronicles. It's a pity because I do like Ron generally and loved him in both Hellboy films :(

I watched Outlander just before this, it doesn't compare with regards shameless sci-fi nerd action, Doomsday has plenty of what Outlander had and a plenty of different genres of action.

I'm not calling it a masterpiece, I am saying its great fun, more so that Outlander, which felt just like 13th warrior.

Watched Doomsday the other day despite owning it for 6 months. Thanks to all the negative reviews and comments I had seen about it I actually did enjoy it loads because I had the worst expectations for the film. It does help that Rhona Mitra is in it as well.

The only items that had me cringing was the "can-can" scene. What were they thinking!!!

(Oh and stop dissing Outlander thats one the hidden gems of the last couple of years!)

Myself and my sister always joke about this being the biggest pile of crap we have ever watched. The main theme song is blatantly plagiarised from 28 days later too. Truly terrible, in every way imaginable. I only watched the whole thing to see if it would get worse as it went on, and it did.

Spot the plagiarism more like! Oh god I just remembered the not so subtle product placement of the fancy car towards the end. Ah the more I think about it the more I remember how bad it was. Plot hole would have been a better title.

It's on a par with Battlefield Earth IMO.

How Neil Marshall got anymore work after it is beyond me. He's films seem to be getting progressively worse.

See this is where opinions can differ. I found the 13th Warrior to be absolutely dire, Banderas completely stinks it all up and how we are supposed to believe those morons can challenge vikings is beyond me. Bored me to tears, but Outlander was decent enough, not ground breaking in any way, but reminded me slightly of a cross between Enemy Mine and Screamers with a Viking twist.

God this movie was terrible. And I liked Dog Soldiers. It was far too tongue-in-bloody-cheek. If you're going to waste my time, try not to laugh at me while doing it.

Doomsday and outlander were terrible movies . . I was particularly dissapointed with Doomsday as I loved the idea of the movie . . I thought It was just snippets of 28 days later, escape from New york and mad max 2 all mashed together. . It had so much potential, but was an epic fail . . Kind of like the day-walkers movie (which was even less impressive) . .
