Anybody care to guess who they think the candidate to replace Jacob will be?

Hurley gets my vote with the exception of Sun, Hurley is the only one of them who hasn't commited any violence on or off the island. He genuinely cares bout the well being of those around him, lets face it when it comes to the show Hurley is pretty much a Saint in nearly everybodies eyes. On top of all that he can comunicate with Jacob, so what better way to get on the job training.

It also begs the question whos gonna replace MIB?

I think Sawyer for that one, who better to deceive the future islanders than a con man. Cud u imagine Sawyer with all that power? Now there's a spin off if ever i saw one.

Who Do U Think It Will Be 42 votes

    Jack

    Jin

In the last episode Jacob showed he doesn't object to a bit of violence to protect himself.

I like Hurley. But who the hell is going to follow him? Jack is really the only one who fits the bill but I hope he turns the job down. Unless of course it really is to save the planet. I mean it could be any of them but it would just feel like a lotto then, I mean why would it be Jin for example? Or even Sawyer?

Do we even know for sure who the six are? As far as I can make out its Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, Hurley, Jin or Sun and one other that is probably Kate although this is a bit suspicious since we didn't see her name on the wall. The only other option that I would really buy is Desmond.

Didn't he tell Ben that he cud take his place when he leaves the island. I know its not gonna prob not gonna happen that way but if Jacob can be replaced surely MIB can to. If he cudn't why wudn't Jacob or somebody else just kill him and be done with it?

Sorry violence was the wrong word, Jack, Sayid, Sawyer & Jin have all killed people while on the island.

I doubt it cud be Sawyer, he's way to curuptable, and he just lost Juliet so i doubt he's in the frame of mind to be worrying about humanity and such.

Jacob is not like a normal leader, he doesn't try motivate people towards any kind of action. He really observes them and they will do the right thing, why cudn't Hurley do that?

As far as Desmond is concerned, i cudn't see him see leaving the misses and the child!

I'd be very shocked if it isn't Hurley or Jack.
I think it should be Hurley. He has always been special and had an affinity with the island. I think Jack makes less sense but from a writing perspective having the main character fill the role maybe irresistible. I could also see the last scene with Jack on the island, considering the opening scene of the show it would have a very circular feel to it.

Not a chance it's Sayid, Sawyer or Jin/Sun.

It has to be Jack. Everything points to him and none of the others. Hurley would be the cool option though.

I kind of hope it is Jack, but this is why i'm not sure if its gonna be Jack. Its just too obvious. They like a good mind-**** from time to time.

Maybe we wont actually have a new candidate. Maybe Jack and co. will figure out a way to not need a new Jacob?

just to throw some other ideas out there (however crazy and improbable), could it not also be sun and jins child, or perhaps even locke, plucked from alternate timeline land?

i also thought we'd see mib getting replaced by one of them, dont know why just a gut feeling, although i suppose he was sort of replaced when he took on lockes form

He wasn't offering to take over his place but to be in charge of the island because that is all Ben wants, control and rule over the island. This was no different than him offering for Sayid to get whatever he wanted in the world.

thats true alright but as i said if he won't be replaced why wouldn't one of the others have killed him by now? if Jacob can die surely MIB can to!

I think people are misinterpreting what MIB is. MIB is simply evil personified, he is a representation of evil in human form. He is the culmination of everything that is evil.

You can not destroy evil, it simply changes form - much like good. i.e Jacob (Good) is not dead he is just in a transitional stage until (Good) takes a new form, e.g the Candidates.
The same applies to MIB (Evil), you can not kill him but his form can change.

Jacob's job is to prevent this (Evil) from escaping into the real world. It doesn't mean MIB is a single entity of pure evil, it means if he passes through all other evil (which he is made from) comes with him.

In the first season one of the main themes was Jack having to come to terms with being a leader. Locke tried to help him do so and Hurley was keen on listening to Jack also so I think it makes sense for it to be Jack.

I agree Hurley has been very good genrally although he did keep all that food to himself in the first or second season which is perhaps a strike against him?

well if that is the case then he can die just as jacob did (or as you said put it, go through a transitional stage) and another candidate take his place

none of us know what he is anyway

Didn't he run down some Others in the Dharma van in the end of S3?

Going by last weeks episode MIB cannot be replaced. Jacobs job is to stop him escaping the island as is his replacement. Also MIB said that he would kill Jacobs replacements.

i don't think MiB is the evil that needs to be contained. if that were the case the island would be more of a cage than a cork. I think jacob and MiB - together - prevent the evil escaping. MiB is just sick of everything and wants to leave - he doesn't care about the consequences.

personally i think the candidate will turn out to be Ben

Hurley ran over at least one of the freighter soldiers using the Dharma hippy-van when they were holding Bernard and a few others hostage on the beach. I'm pretty sure he killed him too.

There's also the issue of the other beings that appear to be watching what's going on. Locke saw a child in the jungle, who told him that he shouldn't have killed Jacob, and that it was against the rules. I guess there's more than just Jacob and MIB here.

My guess is that Hurley would be the next Jacob. Jack is far to unpredictable and moody. It's like he's been on a bad period since he arrived on the Island.

I have a feeling that Arron and Walt still have a role to play. Both appear to be special. Arron was the only child born on the island. He is connected to the Shepards i.e. Christian, Jack and Clarie. He may be the "second coming" so to speak. The one to replace Jacob. I have always thought that the name "Shepard" may have a deep symbolic and literal meaning. They could be the literal shepards of the island and/or the force of good.

The statue on the island represents the god of fertility which highlights the importance of fertility on the island. Therefore the birth of Arron on the island underscores his importance to the island.

For Walts part it appears that he had special abilties before he came to the island. He also appeared to locke towards the end of the last season.

How both could be interwoven back into the story I dont know.

I also reckon that jacob and MiB are brothers.
