Overlapping Pictures

Hi guys, I've got an old photo and I wanted to recreate a 2010 version that closely matched the original. I took a series of shots and selected the nearest match and it's pretty close. Now I'd like to somehow over lap the two shots and see just how close they line up.
I'm using PS3.If anyone can help or point me to a tutorial I'd be very grateful.

Paste in the two images as separate layers and reduce the opacity of the top layer. That will allow you to see how closely the two images match

Hi fil. I'm doing something silly (like usual!!). I'm opening one picture but every time I add the 2nd it opens in a new pane i.e. I can't get them to overlap

What software are you using? I use adobe CS3 and to paste in the second image as a new layer all I have to do is

    1. open the original image
    2. copy the second image you want to paste in
    3. paste the copied image onto the 1st image.

This will give the second image a new layer over the 1st image.

If it pastes on top of the original create a new layer first. - Layers menu -new layer, then paste in, that way you can adjust the position and the opacity of the new layer.
