Setting up Trad Band Limerick/Clare/Tipp area

    Hi folks,

I'm looking for a broad spectrum of trad musicians for a new trad band in the Clare/Tipp/Limerick area. I am a singer and would like maybe fiddle, box, percussion, guitar, and if anyone plays additional instruments like flute, whistle, bango, mandoline then all the better. I have a guitarist already but he may not be available all the time so I would like to hear from guitarists too.

I would be very committed to working hard and rehearsing well and would require all musicians to have the same commitment. I have access to day time rehearsal space.
Gigs will be sought for the full line up but also sit down sessions will be sought for a smaller line up. This way we would be versatile and could take all types of gigs.

Set list would be discussed once we get together. I would bring the classic Irish ballads to the table and would be excited about any international influences coming to the fore the way the likes of Sinead O'Connor, Sharon Shannon and Kila do so well.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Jacqui

    Hey

Just came across the ad there, I'm considering something similar myself now, just wondering how did you get on with your venture? Recruit many trad musicians?

I'm a guitarist myself from limerick

    Cheers

    Hey ya,

Ya I got on great. Got cello, fiddle and guitar/flute players. All great musicians and we have already played a short set for the CATDIG Festival in Limerick in May. It went down well.
We are rehearsing twice a week as we are trying interesting arrangements for songs and are also doing some of my own original songs. Its working out well with the "half songs half tunes" ethos. I got some negative feedback at the beginning regarding this type of set. Some "hard core Irish trad musicians" weren't interested in doing any more than 3 songs in a gig. So I persevered until I found more progressive musicians that enjoy the challenge of stepping out of their own norm....
Our "sound" is kind of a mix of irish trad, american folk/blues.
Looking forward to playing gigs in the near future. We named the band DaLua so keep an eye out for us!

best of luck with your new venture. If I hear of anyone looking for the same thing I will let you know.
