The two Labour "jobs" might be of some use with regards to gaining experience. I wouldn't be so sure it's great for graduates though!

That seems like the sort of job that the scheme was made for to be honest. A lot of people would find experience in that sort of job useful. At least it's not working on a check out or being a toilet attendent like a lot of other placements that have been linked to on boards lately.

That's a thought. Years ago I served in the UK merchant navy and reached a high enough rank to be able to take my wife with me on occasional voyages. The shipping line paid her a salary of (then) five shillings a day. When I asked why they told me it was to comply with the anti-slavery laws as she had to sign ships articles and was therefore an employee. I would bet that in this case they are claiming the jobs are for work experience, although the ads seem to suggest more than that. Sounds very close to exploitation to me, but what else is new in modern Ireland?

Labour should set up a tent at the Galway Races.
I am sure the banks and developers would be glad to flash the cash to get them to shut up about NAMA.
Then they could afford to pay anyone they want, like FF

The whole point of the WPP programme is to get people that are unemployed into a position where they get more experience, and which might lead to a job.

If I were unemployed, and interested in politics, I'd be very interested in 9 month long internship with a political party given that I'd have my foot in the door and would be in a good position for any jobs that might arise.

Sure, in 9 months time, won't all the talk be of the forthcoming election anyways?!

All the talk of slavery is missing the point completely. The definition of slavery is forced labour from which you can't leave, on pain of death or injury. It exists in todays world, sadly, but is very rare in Ireland and you certainly won't find it advertised on FAS, as bad as they are.

    If anyone's interested, I recommend this http://www.ted.com/talks/kevin_bales_how_to_combat_modern_slavery.html

Other than that, if you're interested in politics, and support the labour party, I'd get applying for those positions. Could turn into an interesting job next year!
