To Briefcase Or Not To Briefcase

Right 1st post in this forum... mods feel free to move it if it belongs elsewhere.

Been unemployed for some while now, and have a few interviews tommorow. In the mean time a family member got me a briefcase for xmas (not thinking that I had no job :P)

Just wondering should I take the briefcase with with all necessary stuff in it (CV's etc.) to make a good impression, or would I look like a total prat? I'm not the manbag sort of guy, and think showing up in a suit with a backpack looks kinds naff.

Hard to say having never seen the briefcase, but if it's a choice between the briefcase with a suit or a backpack with a suit, then go for the briefcase every time. A backpack would completely ruin the sharp look of a suit.

What kind of job are you going for? And what level?

Sales manager. Trust me if it was a job in a shop I wouldn't bother with it

I've never seen anyone bring a briefcase or a backpack to an interview. They will already have your CV and details. You just need a copy of it for your own reference folded in your jacket pocket. The case is not going to bring anything useful to you for the interview.
The very fact you are asking about it here shows you would be ill at ease carrying it, you don't need anything else on your mind at an interview.
Save the case for when you get the job. :)

agree with the goat. the suitcase will scream trying too hard.

all you need for an interview is yourself, your CV and a nice fitting suit. of course the ability to speak is needed too :)
