AFAIK Bank Transfer is dead, everyone gets either a Cheque or goes to the Post Office with their white Social Welfare card?

I can understand why someone must go to a Post Office, it is supposed to prove that a) They are still in Ireland and b) They are still near the town where they say they live (I assume you must collect in a particular post office?)

But the cheque is as lax as a bank transfer, why hasn't the cheque been abolished?

Sure you could live in Australia and have your mother lodge the cheque to your bank account, or you mother could even post the cheque to your bank with a lodgement docket attached!

Bank transfer isnt dead in my part of the country, my SW office are as happy as larry to switch people over to bank payment and some of my friends have also done it now.

i doubt somebody is going to be out in Australia and still getting payments, i think for them to come back to sign on every month its going to be a lot more cost than what the dole gives ya....

Do you not have to pick up the dole from the post office in person every week? I know family members can collect pensions if prearranged but dont you have to have ur passport with you to collect the dole from the post office? Unless you have an identical twin though!
