Hi guys, i have a 08 nissan note that has been parked up for about 2 months only driven once in that time, so the battery has died in it, now my problem is that i can't get the bonnet to release so i can charge the bettery. So how can i open the bonnet?? it seems to require some battery power to pop it.

Get someone to push down on the bonnet over the lock, while you pull the release.

Or if there is some sort of electical release, check your manual there will be an overide.

Does this car have keyless entry?
Are you able to get into the car?

Yes the car has keyless entry.

Yes i can get into the car by removing a cover over the passenger handle and opening with the key.

And the bonnet release is near the fuel filler flap release thingy...or is it?
This might be stating the obvious but have you had a read of the user manual?

I have read through everything to do with the battery being dead in the manual and it says nothing about opening the bonnet with a dead battery.

Yeah the bonnet release is beside the fuel release and neither will work.

You could try hooking up a 12V supply to the cigarette lighter, it should get you out of a fix.

I don't think i have anything that would supply any power to the cigarette lighter.

is there any part of the grille that pops out t put a key in to open the bonnet, there has to be sme way of doin it

The electrical system has nothing to do with opening the bonnet. Its is likely just stuck from the extreme weather. Get someone try pull and push on the bonnet where the catch is(above the grille) while you pull the bonnet release.

If you can, get yourself one of these.

That said, I still think your bonnet release is cable operated so try the Doc's advice first.

The bonnet release isn't cable operated, but when i do try to open it it does click and i have tried getting someone to push and pull on the bonnet while i pulled the release, but nothing happens.

There is no such thing as a bonnet release that isn't cable operated(ford aside before anyone jumps in).
The bonnet always opens manually as its needs to be able to open in exactly the situation you are in, no power.

well i hate to say, but it is. Its a switch and if i pull any harder on it it will snap. but there has to me a manual override for such situations, its wrecking my head that i can't find anything in the manual or on the internet about this!

Press the switch then go around the back and pull on the boot lid....;)

I'd be seriously surprised if it wasn't a cable...if it isn't that's one of the most ridiculous designs I've ever heard of!

It has to be cable. Why would nissan make it electric? OP you're getting soething wrong or the mechamism is siezed/cable snapped

The Nissan Note/Renault Modus(same car) have cable operated bonnet releases, If he is pressing a switch as stated I almost guarantee he has been popping the boot the whole time!

Possibly OP, as it is Renault based, the grab handle for the bonnet release is in the passenger footwell...this is slightly cringeworthy...

Ah come on OP did you get it sorted or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,043 ✭✭✭allen175

yeah got it all sorted, the switch was stuck so took abit more force to pop the bonnet, but got it in the end.
