    hi guys!

I've got a Samsung R505, i left the laptop on top of my fridge with the aux lead goin from my laptop across the room to the stereo. Walking past I ened up ripping the lead from the port in the laptop. Now half the head of the lead is still in the port and the laptop thinks there is still a lead in there and is not playin sounds through the speakers.
:( very sad day for me.

Can anyone recamend a cheap laptop fix-it place around Dublin?

I opened it up yesterday. The soundcard is somehow attached to the casing and I could not find a screw or anysing of somthing holding it inplace. I Couldnt open the case fully, there was wires and stuff still attached to the mb. I closed it after this I'm not that tech savvy I was afraid i'd break something.

    hi big_d,

something similar happened to my OH's laptop, end of a headphone jack got stuck in the port. the laptop being less than a year old, i called sony only to be told that this kind of repair wasnt covered under warranty and would cost €350 to fix! amazing how motivated one can be to find that elusive screw when faced with that kind of a repair bill. the audio ports were located on the underside of the motherboard as such in the palmrest. once i got in behind the audio block i used a needle to shove out the offending piece out of the port, put the laptop back together, all perfect. also saved me having to buy a USB set of headphones!

I can't open the case enough to get a proper look at the sound card, theres a few wires holding the casing together.

anyone know if those usb sound cards are anygood? I dont like the idea of a big box hanging off the side of my machine anytime I want to listen to something!

Take a look on YouTube and see if there are any vids that show your laptop being taken apart. And if you do decide to do it, take pictures of how everything is connected as you go.
